Vanessa Feltz took to Instagram on Monday after she was rushed to emergency surgery following agonising pain 'worse than child birth'.

The TV host, 62, told followers that she'd been left 'doubled down in agony' before doctors discovered she was suffering from a kidney stone.

Speaking from her hopsital bed Vanessa said: 'Good morning from hospital, bit of a surprise, yesterday I was absolutely fine, completely fine and I had the [grandchildren] over for lunch and I was completely fine'.

'There was nothing wrong with me at all and then suddenly I got this pain and it was just absolutely extraordinary I've never had anything like it and i've given birth to two children naturally and never had any pain like that in my life'.

Vanessa, who is shares daughters Allegra, 38, and Saskia, 35, with ex-husband Michael Kurer, said that while she is usually 'a trooper' and battles through illness, she was so unwell she was forced to miss her LBC radio show.

Saying: 'I was in agony I couldn't sit down, I couldn't lie down, I didn't know what to do, it was absolutely astounding'.

Vanessa then went on to detail how she underwent a scan where medics discovered the kidney stone was 5mm, before being rushed to surgery to have it removed.

Alongside the clip she wrote: 'Gosh! Hello from hospital. 2pm I was fine. Had just made lunch and was playing with AJ 5 and Cecily nearly two. 3pm I was doubled over in agony. Scan showed big kidney stone'.

'OMG! Astoundingly painful. Rushed into theatre. Very grateful thanks to my daughters nurses porters anaesthetist and wonderful surgeon. Thank you so much'.

It comes after Vanessa admitted she found the 'crushing solitude' of being single difficult to navigate following her split from Ben Ofoedu

She split from singer Ben, 51, in February last year after 16 years together when she discovered he had been unfaithful.

The star has been single since then but has gone on plenty of dates, most of which appear to have been unsuccessful.

Writing in her Express column, Vanessa candidly admitted she has struggled with feeling lonely after having had a partner for so many years.

She wrote: 'I've been so lucky to holiday in Spain with my grandchildren, but returning to an empty house feels bleak after days of fun and laughter.

'I'm a reluctant singleton. I try to muster somebackbone, but I don't like it. I've found the contrast between the togetherness of family 24/7 to crushing solitude tough to navigate. My heart goes out to all those in the same boat.'

During a recent appearance on the Suddenly Single podcast, Vanessa told how she's been on some 'demoralising' dates lately.

She said: 'When you're on a horrible date, where there's nothing – it's not fun, they're looking at you and you're looking at them and when you go home and walk in the door, it's very hard… it's hard not to feel a bit diminished.

'You don't feel attractive, you don't feel what you said is funny. You don't feel wanted.'

Vanessa, who said her most recent date was 'dire', has no desire to try out the world of online dating.

She said: 'I've never swiped in my life – I reckon I'd end up in the papers in about two or three seconds.'

Vanessa even tried her luck on Celebs Go Dating but sadly didn't mean The One.

She said of the experience: 'It was very difficult, but I remained hopeful, mildly hopeful…if you'd said to me, do you, with your hand on the Bible Vanessa, think that they're going to find you your Prince Charming, I would probably have said no.'

The presenter reportedly found a string of social media messages and emails from Ben to other women last year.

WHAT ARE KIDNEY STONES?

Kidney stones are hard lumps that form due to a build up of waste products in the blood.

They are usually found in the kidney or the ureter — the tube that connects the kidneys to your bladder.

They can be extremely painful and can lead to kidney infections or the kidney not working properly if left untreated.

A tenth of Britons and Americans suffer kidney stones, with 30 to 60-year-olds most vulnerable.

It is more likely to happen if a person doesn't drink enough fluids, takes certain medication or has an underlying condition.

Those in severe pain, with a high temperature or have blood in their urine should contact their GP or NHS 111 immediately.

Once a kidney stone has formed, the body will tries to pass it through urine.

Most are small enough to do so and can be managed at home.

However, larger stones may need to be broken up with surgery.

Up to half of all sufferers will have kidney stones again within five years.
