As part of Steam's "Medieval Fest," which is happening until April 27, there have been several demos available for games set in the Middle Ages. One of these upcoming games looks to be a wonderful blend of Valheim's survival RPG style with Stardew Valley's farming and life simulation gameplay. Although it doesn't have a full release date yet, anyone with a Steam account can download the demo of the game for free to see if they want to add it to their wishlist and be notified when it launches.

Combining a farming sim like Stardew Valley with survival aspects akin to Valheim is certainly not a new idea, but that's because when it's done right, they blend together perfectly. Sure, having to survive in a brutal world where there are dangers in more than just a mine shaft can take away from some relaxing coziness, but it also adds so much to the immersive qualities of these types of games.

Bread And Blood Can Be A New Farming RPG

Currently in development by a solo indie developer ErasIt, the game Bread and Blood is a medieval survival RPG where you must do what you have to in order to survive in a harsh world. Starting as an impoverished peasant, it's up to you to decide how you want to live. You can attempt to be an honest worker, a struggling farmer, or even take the route of a bandit and steal your way to fortune.

Once you have enough money to get your own land, whether through hard work in various jobs of classic medieval trades or simply stealing it, you can work on making your own little Stardew Valley-like farm.

Or, perhaps you enjoyed working as a butcher, cobbler, or craftsman and want to level up those skills to become proficient at your craft? The choice is yours, but you'll have to remember to pay taxes to just about everyone, no matter what path you take.

You Can Play A Free Demo Right Now

According to the developer log on Steam, right now Bread and Blood is still in an early build where many core systems aren't fully accessible yet. They plan on having an Early Access Steam launch ready around mid-summer 2026, with a full release hopefully taking place near the end of the year.

However, if you want to get a sneak peek now, and possibly add it to your wishlist, there is a free demo available now on Steam. Just keep in mind while you're playing that this is an early build, even earlier than Early Access titles can be. Also, if you are someone who is prone to motion sickness while playing certain video games (as I am), perhaps watch the video of the game on Steam first and see how you feel. Hopefully the full release will be a bit easier in that regard, as the game Bread and Blood looks like it could be incredible.
