A new board game based on the Call of Duty franchise is still coming out, although its new release window is a year later than originally expected. Back in 2023, Arcane Wonders raised over $225,000 to fund the production of Call of Duty: The Board Game. The new game features maps from various Call of Duty games, along with iconic characters from the franchise. Although Call of Duty: The Board Game was originally for release in 2024, production and fulfillment was delayed. Arcane Wonders has now provided an update on when backers and board game enthusiasts can expect to see the game finally hit tables.

According to a press release from Arcane Wonders, Call of Duty: The Board Game will now come out in Q3 to Q4 of this year. An update on Kickstarter from late last year provided some more details about the delays. "We expected things like approvals from the licensor to go quicker along the way," the update read. "Who knew that so many real world guns, that we frequently see in other board games, would have so many legal trademarks!" Still, Arcane Wonder expects production to finish up this summer and for the product to start shipping out to backers by Q3.

What To Expect From Call Of Duty: The Board Game

Intense Skirmish Combat And Characters From The Game Are Hitting The Tabletop

The Call of Duty board game combines customized deckbuilding and character creation with intense skirmish combat. Players choose an operator, weapon, and items, and then build a custom combat deck incorporating various tactics. The game uses many of the weapons, characters, and even maps from the Call of Duty franchise, such as Shoot House and Standoff. The game also features pre-painted miniatures of various operators. Up to four players can play the base game, with an expansion adding options for 5 to 6 players.

Although technically a board game, Call of Duty: The Board Game follows a growing trend of skirmish miniatures games. Halo: Flashpoint hit retailers recently, with players building small strike teams of Spartans to engage in PvP battles similar to those found in the franchise. Additionally, other popular video game franchises like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Metal Gear Solid also have games either in production or available for sale now.

Our Take: Call Of Duty: The Board Game Is A Neat Twist

New Call Of Duty Game Could Be A Sleeper Hit

From what we've seen of Call of Duty: The Board Game, it seems like a pretty cool take on the franchise. Incorporating various maps and weapons from the franchise adds a level of authenticity to the game, even if approval for using those weapons led to some unfortunate delays.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest video game franchises in the world, so we wouldn't be surprised if this game becomes a sleeper hit if it makes its way into big-box retailers like Target when it comes out. Let's hope that the game's delays don't impact the enjoyment players feel when they no-scope headshot their opponent at the end of a match.
