EXCLUSIVE: After playing a racing boss in F1 and a Republican politician in Death by Lightning, Shea Whigham is heading to Hawaii for his next role.
The actor, best known for his role in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, will join the second season of Netflix drama series Untamed.
It comes as the Eric Bana-led series takes off for the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park in its second season, having been set in Yosemite National Park for Season 1.
The second season follows Bana’s ISB agent Kyle Turner as he’s called to investigate a mysterious death in the park, where local tensions and the volatile, living landscape become an unpredictable force.
Whigham plays Ray Burkart, who moved from California to the Big Island of Hawaii 30 years ago, and has a hand in various businesses, some more legal than others. After suffering the tragic loss of his son, Burkart clashes with Turner in their search for his son’s killer.
The six-part drama series comes from co-showrunners Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith. Warner Bros Television is the studio. Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith are exec producing alongside Bana; John Wells and Erin Jontow via John Wells Productions, which is under an overall deal with Warner Bros Television; Todd Black and Tony Shaw for Escape Artists Entertainment; Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder Productions; and Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment.
Whigham also recently starred in Netflix limited series American Primeval, neo-noir crime thriller Lake George, Eileen opposite Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. He is repped by WME and Range.
