Universal Pictures has dropped a new trailer for its upcoming The Odyssey adaptation from director Christopher Nolan. The trailer was unveiled on Monday night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The pic stars Matt Damon as Odysseus. The all-star cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
In the trailer we see a much broader swath of Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic, featuring our first looks at Theron as Circe and Pattinson as Antinous as he tries to take the kingdom of Ithaca from Odysseus.
The footage reveals the story’s iconic cyclops, who seems to already be holding one of Odysseus’ soldiers in his grip. The trailer also shows more carnage from the battle of Troy as well as what appears to be an encounter with the Laestrygonians, a cannibalistic race of giants.
Nolan wrote the screenplay based on the ancient poem and produced it alongside Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner. Universal Pictures is distributing the film.
The epic from the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer filmmaker was shot using new Imax technology and comes out on July 17, 2026 in theaters.
