Popular UK indie band Catfish and the Bottlemen have cancelled the Australian leg of their world tour.

Devastated fans were informed of the news on Wednesday hours before the Welsh rockers were scheduled to play a show at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion.

Concertgoers received an email from organisers explaining that the show was dropped due to 'band illness'.

Tour organiser's confirmed that all scheduled Australian shows would not be going ahead in the email to ticket holders.

'This weekend they were hoping to still be able to perform but on doctor orders they were forced to cancel their show in Dublin,' the message to fans read.

'Due to band illness, the Australian dates this month will also no longer be going ahead. The band were really looking forward to these shows and sincerely apologise to everyone for any inconvenience and disappointment.'

Aussie fans are now taking to X to express their disappointment over the cancelled gigs.

'Catfish and the Bottlemen tour getting cancelled has just ruined my life,' messaged one fan on the platform.

'WTF no way Catfish and the Bottlemen cancelling, about to start crying at work,' posted another.

'Actually nobody speak to me since Catfish and the Bottlemen cancelled their tour <3 ,' posted another disappointed concertgoer.

The email did not specify the illness or who was unwell.

Australian-born lead singer Van McCann and bassist Benji Blakeway are the only members of the original group taking part in the current tour.

The cancelled gigs include shows that were scheduled throughout September including dates in Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

It came after the band cancelled a heavily publicised gig in Ireland earlier this week, which is part of the group's much hyped 'comeback' tour.

Following their trip Down Under, the band are meant to play a series of dates in the U.S. before returning to the U.K. to play more concerts in the new year.

Formed in 2007, the band last had a hit with their third album The Balance in 2019, before they took a break from performing.

They have been on the 'comeback' trail after being thrown into turmoil when original guitarist Johnny Bond confirmed via social media that he had left the group in 2022.

Bond's exit followed the resignation of drummer Bob Hall in 2021.

The band, whose most famous song Cocoon was released 10 years ago, recently played Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K.

The remaining members are expected to release a new album in 2025.
