Uber rolls out OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work to all 30,000 employees

Uber Technologies Inc. is rolling out OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work to its entire global workforce of about 30,000 employees, the company told TechCrunch on Thursday.

The deployment expands a pilot that put the enterprise AI agent in the hands of 1,000 Uber employees earlier this year, a roughly 30-fold increase. Staff will use the tool for research, document creation, project management and task automation across Uber’s global operations.

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Work around July 9, 2026, pitching it as an AI agent that enterprise teams can plug into their day-to-day workflows. A company-wide rollout at Uber gives OpenAI a large reference customer as other big firms weigh similar moves.

Uber pushes AI adoption after cutting 3,300 roles

The rollout builds on a partnership the two companies first highlighted publicly on May 6, 2026, which initially focused on AI-assisted tools for Uber’s drivers and riders.

Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi has repeatedly said that using AI is becoming a necessity inside the company rather than an optional extra, and has pointed to the need for adoption across Uber’s workforce since April 2025.

The expansion follows Uber’s cut of about 3,300 roles in September 2026 as part of a broader efficiency push that has also included growing internal use of AI. Uber has not said that ChatGPT Work directly replaced any specific roles.
