In Dragon Ball lore, Super Saiyan 4 is an ultimate level of power that both Goku and Vegeta achieved via two vastly different means, with the fan-favorite Z-Warrior known as Trunks unfortunately never getting his chance to follow in their footsteps. Thanks to the fan community, new concept art finally gives Trunks the Super Saiyan 4 makeover he has always deserved, bringing with it an impressive visual design that suits the character well.
Giving Trunks a glow-up that makes him look even cooler than he already is, Christian Insisa (@chry_insi_art) is a creative talent who consistently uploads sketches to his over 50k followers on Instagram. Sharing images of some of the most popular characters in the Dragon Ball universe, Christian has also posted illustrations featuring heroes and villains hailing from the worlds of One Piece, My Hero Academia, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Pokémon, and even Marvel Comics, with Christian’s creative sensibilities seeing him mimic the art style of these franchises perfectly while adding in his own artistic flair to each new piece.
Dragon Ball’s Trunks Looks More Badass Than Ever in Super Saiyan 4 Concept Art
Fanart Design by Christian Insisa (@chry_insi_art)
A Super Saiyan form exclusive to the now non-canon Dragon Ball GT series, Super Saiyan 4 was the be-all-end-all transformation at the time, combining the Saiyan race’s ability to become a devastating Great Ape with yet another level of seemingly impossible power, resulting in a badass red and black fur-covered being that can bend any foe to their will. Reaching the Super Saiyan Rage form in Dragon Ball Super’s “Future” Trunks Saga, this is the most powerful transformation Trunks ever attained, with Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan 4 never being in the cards for this staple Z-Fighter... until now.

Future Gohan & Trunks Get a Heartwarming Moment Together in Moving New Dragon Ball Fanart
Future Gohan and Trunks hail from an alternate timeline that isn't exactly peaceful, with new fanart giving the pair the quiet moment they deserve.
Looking like the spitting image of an adult Trunks mixed with elements taken right from Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta, the most striking difference Christian runs with here is keeping Trunks’ grey hair along with his signature jean jacket and similar pants. Giving Super Saiyan 4 Trunks red fur, a tail, longer hair that elicits his Super Trunks form (complete with sideburns, no less), and, of course, a defiant expression that screams “mess around and find out” and it’s safe to say Christian nailed Trunks’ Super Saiyan 4 redesign, making fans long for an official version of the character.
Trunks Is Dragon Ball’s Latest Character To Reach Super Saiyan 4 in New Redesign
Though it’s certain Trunks will never reach Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball continuity simply because the form is lost to the defunct anime world of Dragon Ball GT, it’s entirely possible that in future Dragon Ball stories Trunks could receive another form exclusive to him, à la Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Beast Gohan, and Orange Piccolo, one that matches or even surpassed the power of Super Saiyan 4. Until then, the talent of the fan community will have to do for inventive Dragon Ball redesigns, with this Super Saiyan 4 Trunks piece being one of the best.
