Trump says Bitcoin eases pressure on the US dollar

1 week ago 8

President Donald Trump said Bitcoin is increasingly being used for payments and claimed that the shift away from cash eases pressure on the US dollar and benefits the country.

“Crypto is a big deal. I see it more and more where people are paying with Bitcoin,” Trump said, speaking to Punchbowl News. “They don’t even know about cash anymore. That takes a lot of pressure off our dollar.”

He reiterated that the US must maintain its lead in both crypto and artificial intelligence or risk allowing China to gain the upper hand in either industry.

Asked whether he supports ethics restrictions under the Senate’s CLARITY Act that would limit his family’s crypto businesses during his presidency, Trump said the proposed provisions unfairly target him but added that he would not object to placing his interests in a blind trust.

He emphasized that his children operate the family’s businesses independently of the government.

“I don’t mind putting it in a blind trust. I don’t run my stuff anyway. I let my kids run it. But I never even talked, I never talked to them about things. If they want to go into it, you know, they’re not involved in government,” he said.
