Black Doves follows Knightley's Helen Webb, the loving and supportive wife of Wallace Webb, a prominent British politician. Webb is also a secret agent working for the mysterious covert spy organization known as the Black Doves, which Mrs. Reed is the head of. Reed confronts Helen over an affair she was having with a civil servant named Jason (Andrew Koji), who was shockingly shot and killed in a park from long range. Suspecting that Helen could be in hot water with a powerful criminal conspiracy, Reed enlists a trusted triggerman named Sam Young (Whishaw) to help Helen avert threats to her life and family.

Finn Bennett, who played Peter in True Detective season 4, appears in Black Doves season 1 as CIA operative Cole Atwood. Since True Detective is an anthology series, Bennett won't be back to reprise his role from Night Country although there has been speculation about a potential Night Country season 2. However, Black Doves gives Bennett a compelling new spy/murder mystery show in which he's working for the CIA, which is pretty close to his police officer role in True Detective season 4.

If Bennett does return in Black Doves season 2, he could either be an asset or a threat to Helen and the entire Black Doves organization.
