What can you expect from a series called “Paradise?” Anything but.

Hulu’s new drama from “This Is Us” scribe Dan Fogelman stars Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden, and Julianne Nicholson, three people with access to society’s most protected and elite pockets — for whom all hell breaks loose.

The show’s first teaser revealed that Marsden plays President of the United States Cal Bradford, who is found dead by Brown as Secret Service Agent Xavier Collins. When it turns out that the President has been murdered, Xavier becomes the top suspect. But as the teasers and trailers suggest, there’s more going on here than an assassination attempts, and the series tagline “Read Between the Lies” points to a major conspiracy.

The new trailer dives deeper; as soon as Xavier finds POTUS, he tells another agent (Nicole Brydon Bloom) “Call it in. Our people only.” He searches the area and looks terrified when he finds an empty case. Later, he’s locked in an interrogation room and connected to lie detectors, being questioned by a character played by Krys Marshall, and nudged to lie about his feelings by another (Sarah Shahi) — who claims to have a message from Cal himself. There are lots of scenes with Marsden’s President from before the murder, including where he invites Xavier into the Oval Office to share “top secret national security information.” Nicholson looms throughout the trailer, speaking directly to Xavier after it’s revealed that he has a wife and two children — something to fight for.

“I see a man who loves his family. Children are worth protecting,” she says, over shots of Brown loading up a rifle and sharpening a knife.

Hulu‘s official synopsis reads: “‘Paradise’ is set in a serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquility explodes when a shocking murder occurs and a high-stakes investigation unfolds.” The series is executive produced by Fogelman, Brown, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, John Hoberg, Jess Rosenthal, and Steve Beers, and also stars Charlie Evans, John Beavers, Alivah Mastin, and Percy Daggs IV.

Paradise” premieres January 28 on Hulu, with three episodes followed by weekly installments. Watch the latest full trailer below.
