Transformers has experienced a bit of a lull, especially in the mainstream media, with the last live-action film released back in 2023. Of course, the incredible animated film, Transformers One, helped boost the franchise's popularity even further, but it, too, was released a while ago, debuting in 2024. It's hard to deny that Transformers has been in dire need of a new mainstream release, and, fortunately, it appears to be getting one very soon.

As we enter what will hopefully become a bold new era for Transformers, fans can start getting excited about the bevy of upcoming projects in the works. One such project, Beyond Reality, is set to release in September and fully immerse fans in the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons. For those who've been hungering for more Transformers content to help whet their appetite, this brand-new release should absolutely do the trick.

As fans await the upcoming Transformers animated film as well as the upcoming Jason Fuchs-written live-action film from Paramount, it is up to the expanded media to help fill the gaps. Transformers has always performed excellently in comic book form, with the likes of Robert Kirkman and Dan Mora's recent run, and those have helped both offer quality storytelling within a universe very much capable of it and make up for the shortcomings of the films. However, one area where Transformers has seemingly routinely struggled is in video games, and, fortunately, Beyond Reality aims to fix that.

Transformers: Beyond Reality was a PlayStation VR exclusive VR title that saw players take on the Decepticons in an on-rails shooter experience. It garnered largely mixed reviews, which were exacerbated by its being locked to one specific platform. It meant that anyone interested in the game had to either purchase a PSVR headset or hope that it would eventually be ported to other platforms. Fortunately, that day has come, as Transformers: Beyond Reality - Redux is set to take the experience away from PlayStation VR when it launches on September 3, 2026.

Transformers: Beyond Reality - Redux will be available on the Meta Quest, including the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S. It is also bringing with it a handful of changes that the developer detailed in a Q&A on its official Discord server. Chief among these changes are a retuning of wave difficulty balance, new enemies and a new way to attack said enemies, and an overhaul of the existing media upgrade system. The developer answering the question stated that "if you've played both [versions] you will notice some significant shifts."

"If you've played both you will notice some significant shifts. Especially in the gameplay. We've completely retuned the balance so the escalation of wave difficulty feels much more interesting. That alone made the game feel fully refreshed. There are two new enemies, as well as a new way to attack. And the entire media upgrade system has been fully overhauled. You can't get away with cheesing one level over and over again to level up all your weapons. Those are some of the quick ones just off the top of my head. I'll add in some more later on."

Transformers: Beyond Reality - Redux is just one of the many upcoming Transformers games, but it should hopefully appeal to those who either felt the original game was in need of enhancements, or those with a Meta Quest headset looking for immersive Transformers action. As aforementioned, Transformers: Beyond Reality - Redux is set to release on September 3, 2026, which, at the time of writing, is just one day away. Transformers fans with a VR headset should really check this one out, read reviews, and see how transformative the changes are, as it could end up being a sleeper hit worth playing.
