The live-action Transformers movies have never been known for their restraint (and why would they?). Across nearly two decades, the live-action franchise has delivered massive robot battles, ridiculous explosions, cosmic stakes between good and evil...and some of the most epic quotes you'll ever hear in a sci-fi movie. However, the movies also feature some of the most hilariously unhinged quotes as well.
From Optimus Prime's declarations about freedom and sacrifice to Agent Simmons and his endlessly eccentric mind and ego, the Transformers movies have an impressive collection of memorable lines, with most of them coming from the films directed by Michael Bay (for better or for worse). The sense of humor found in the Bay movies is unlike anything else. At the same time, the leader of the Autobots has rarely sounded cooler or been more inspiring.
With seven live-action movies spanning the original trilogy, the era led by Mark Wahlberg, and the later quasi-rebooted continuity films, there are a lot of quotes to choose from. Keeping that in mind, here are the 20 greatest, funniest, and most memorable quotes we love from the live-action Transformers films.
"No Sacrifice, No Victory." - The Witwickys
Established early on in 2007's Transformers, the Witwicky family motto serves as the through line for the entire movie, especially as Shia LaBeouf's Sam becomes more involved in the Autobots' initial conflict with the Decepticons. Just as the Autobots are willing to put themselves in danger to protect Earth, Sam eventually learns that becoming a hero means putting his own life on the line (like when he plunges the Allspark into Megatron's chest).
"Son, I'm A Lot Of Things. A Liar's Not One Of Them. Especially Not In Front Of My Mammy" - Bobby Bolivia
Although Bernie Mac's Bobby Bolivia has only a small role in 2007's Transformers, nearly every line the used car salesman says is comedically unhinged while trying to sell a car to Sam and his dad. However, the above line has seen some crazy mileage online, despite the movie being nearly 20 years old. While he does have the more significant line about the "mystical bond between man and machine", the fact that he gets flipped off by his own mother after saying this line is pure comedic gold.
"LEFT CHEEK! LEFT CHEEK! LEFT CHEEK!" - Sergeant Epps
Also in 2007's Transformers, Sergeant Epps gets one of the most unintentionally hilarious battle cries in the entire franchise. Trying to survive the chaos from Decepticon Scorponok, Lennox needs a credit card to pay for a call so he can request an airstrike from the Air Force. As his multitude of back pockets are frantically searched, Epps yells out where the specific pocket is while still opening fire on the Decepticon.
"ARE YOU USERNAME: LADIESMAN217?" - Barricade
Barricade's interrogation of Sam in the Bay's first Transformers movie remains one of the most memorable early Decepticon encounters. Knowing him only by his eBay username, it's not hard to see just how truly bizarre Sam's first alien encounter is in the entire franchise.
"Freedom Is The Right of All Sentient Beings" - Optimus Prime
This is arguably one of the most important statements associated with Optimus Prime in Bay's live-action movies. It perfectly encapsulate the lengths Optimus is willing to go for humanity, unwilling to allow the Decepticons to enslave Earth, or any other planet they may try to conquer. Every intelligent and seintient being deserves to determine their own destiny, no matter the cost.
"Autobots, Roll Out!" - Optimus Prime
2007's Transformers also features Prime's classic "Autobots, Roll Out!" catchphrase, and hearing it from Peter Cullen for the first time in live-action is still a pretty special moment. It's remained one of Optimus Prime's most defining lines across virtually every project of the Transformers franchise over the last 40 years. However, the first time it was heard in the live-action movies certainly feels like a cut above.
"You Want A Piece Of Me? You Want A Piece? No, I Want TWO! - Jazz/Megatron
Jazz's encounter with Megatron in the first Transformers movie was the darkest and clearest proof of just how dangerous the Decepticon leader is. Despite Jazz's confidence, he was still ripped in half by Megatron early on in the first movie's final battle, and the above line may be one of Megatron's darkest in live-action to this day. It certainly raised the stakes, proving the Autobots weren't invincible and that the Decepticons were a legitimate threat.
"I Am Optimus Prime, And I Sent This Message To Any Surviving Autobots Taking Refuge Among The Stars. We Are Here. We Are Waiting." - Optimus Prime
The closing narration of 2007's Transformers gives Optimus Prime one of his most hopeful and memorable moments, especially with it being accompanied by Linkin Park's "What I've Done" right before the credits drop (still seen as one of the very best credits transitions of all time). Offering any lost Autobots among the stars a newfound home and sanctuary, Optimus Prime is as eager to reunite with his people as he is to protect the people of Earth.
"Fate Rarely Calls Upon Us At A Moment Of Our Choosing." - Optimus Prime
This line captures a major theme of Optimus Prime's character in 2009's Revenge of the Fallen as well as Sam's: heroes often don't get to choose when they're called upon, no matter how much they may wish otherwise. The Transformers arrive on Earth because of circumstances beyond their control, while humans like Sam get caught up in their conflict and are similarly forced into situations they never expected (like Witwicky receiving the location of the Star Harvester imprinted on his mind from the Allspark).
"One Man, Alone, Betrayed By The Country He Loves..." - Agent Simmons
This line from Agent Simmons in Revenge of the Fallen is truly hilarious and one of his funniest examples of his massive ego...as he's not alone when he says it. Leo is right there in the car with him, though that's not nearly as dramatic and heroic as he puts in his future memoirs. Speaking to his feelings of betrayal despite his patriotism, Simmons sees himself as the main character in every Transformers appearance (and it's awesome).
