Top shrink joins Aaron's Carter's fiancé in blaming popstar's gruesome bathtub death on his doctor

2 months ago 35

Pop star Aaron Carter’s shocking bathtub drowning in 2022 was caused by his doctor's over proscribing Xanax and other psychotropic and sedating drugs.

Carter’s doctor, John Faber - who is being sued for wrongful death by the singer fiancé - will ask a court next week to throw out the case, claiming he wasn’t responsible for providing Carter with the drugs that killed him.

But in new court documents obtained by DailyMail.com leading psychiatrist Dr. Tyler Morrison - who has made a detailed investigation of the case - points the finger of blame squarely at Dr. Faber.

And in his written declaration to Los Angeles Superior Court, he opposes Dr. Faber’s scheduled February 20 court motion for a ‘summary judgment’ to get the case dismissed.

'I can state with reasonable medical certainty that Dr. Faber's inappropriate prescribing of Xanax was a proximate cause of Mr. Carter's death,' blasted Morrison.

Carter was only 34 when he was tragically found dead in a bathtub by a housekeeper on November 5, 2022, at his home in Lancaster, California.

The cause of death was later attributed to drowning after inhaling compressed difluoroethane, also known as huffing, and ingesting alprazolam, which is sold under the brand name Xanax.

The popstar's fiancé Melanie Martin filed a lawsuit against his doctor John Faber in 2023 on behalf of their 3-year-old son Princeton that stated the drugs that were prescribed were responsible for his death

In 2023, Carter’s fiancé, Melanie Martin - on behalf of her son by Aaron, Princeton Lyric Carter, now three, - filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Faber, Amen Clinic that he worked for and Walgreens pharmacy, claiming that the younger brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter died because of drugs that were medically prescribed.

An autopsy revealed Carter was 'incapacitated while in the bathtub after he 'slipped under the water' and drowned due to the effects' of the substances, according to officials.

Doctor John Faber worked at the Amen Clinic and was accused of over prescribing Aaron  - four of the prescribed meds were for anxiety, even though he never documented that the popstar had any anxiety diagnosis

Faber, who was Carter's psychiatrist for two years, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, saying his treatment did not cause the star's death and claiming that Carter was getting drugs from other non-medical sources, including 'his girlfriend' - though he did not name Martin.

But Morrison, the assistant clinical professor of child psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego, did a deep dive into the case, studying Carter's medical records, his drug test results, his emails with Dr. Faber and his autopsy report.

His research yielded a shocking result, Faber prescribed Carter seven psychiatric medications, when the accepted practice is 'to avoid prescribing five or more at once,' he stated in his letter.

Morrison slapped Faber with numerous accusations including ignoring Carter's prior history of drug abuse and not doing enough to wean Carter off drugs he was 'likely to abuse' on to other, less addictive ones.

Carter's mother Jane posted photos on Facebook that showed the scene where her son died. The autopsy stated he was 'incapacitated while in the bathtub after he 'slipped under the water' and drowned from the concoction of substances in his system

The top shrink shockingly said his Faber overprescribed Aaron with 'daily benzodiazepines' even though multiple close loved ones, and even a pharmacy, reporting his prior drug habits

Morrison also stated he 'breached the governing standard' in July and August of 2022 and would either give him his Xanax prescriptions early or excessive refills

Four out of the eight prescribed medications 'carried a high risk of abuse'

'Dr. Faber breached the governing standards of care by continuing to prescribe daily benzodiazepines (like Xanax and Halcion) to Aaron Carter for over two years, with insufficient effort to taper or replace such medications with lower-risk medications' Dr. Morrison says in his four-page declaration.

Instead of Xanax, Morrison said that Faber should have tried to get Carter to switch to a lower-risk drug like Prozac or Zoloft.

Top psychiatrist Doctor Tyler Morrison said Faber ignored Aaron's prior history of drug abuse and didn't do enough to wean Carter off drugs he was 'likely to abuse'

Faber's substandard prescribing practices 'continued, despite him being informed by the Department of Child and Family Services that Mr Carter was no-showing drug tests and despite laboratory evidence that Mr. Carter used multiple substances of abuse simultaneously,' stated Morrison.

Curiously, he added, while four of the medications Faber prescribed are typically for treating anxiety, his medical records showed no documentation of an anxiety diagnosis for Carter.

Morrison also criticized Faber for 'prescribing early and/or excessive refills of Xanax on six different occasions during the July and August before Carter's death.

'This was a breach of the governing standard of care because multiple early refills of a controlled substance, especially when followed by a warning from the pharmacy that the patient was known to misuse controlled substances, should have again triggered an attempt to reduce or remove (Xanax or Halcyon) and replace with an SSRI and/or terminate treatment for not following safety prescription use rules.'

Faber said in early submissions to the court that he began treating Carter in 2020 when the singer told him that he suffered from anxiety and took two milligrams of Xanax three times a day to combat it

Even at Carter's last appointment with the doctor on October 21, 2022, just two weeks before his untimely death, 'Dr. Faber documented his recommendation to continue all eight prescribed medications, of which seven were psychotropic and sedating.

'These controlled medications were continued despite repeated multiple warning signs.'

In earlier submissions to the court, Faber said that he began treating Carter in 2020 when the singer told him that he suffered from anxiety and took two milligrams of Xanax three times a day to combat it.

According to Faber, Carter told him that from a teenager, he had been using alcohol, marijuana, cocaine barbiturates, opioids, hallucinogens and other drugs.

And he admitted that he sometimes failed to follow Faber's drug-use instructions, prompting the doctor to threaten to drop him as a patient if he didn't follow instructions.

In May 2022, Carter tested positive for the highly addictive painkillers hydrocodone and oxycodone. But Dr. Faber denied prescribing those opioids.

Martin's lawsuit was also brought against Amen Clinic where Faber worked and Walgreens pharmacy in 2023

Aaron had dealt with drug problems for years, plunging further when his sister Leslie died in 2012 of a prescription drug overdose at the age of 25.

Then more tragedy struck the family when his father Robert died of an apparent heart attack in 2017.

In the rehab trip he underwent after his father's demise, the doctors deduced that Aaron was suffering from multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia

Martin has disagreed in the past about his death being entirely accidental and said she turned his phone in to the authorities after finding a text message exchange in which Carter said that he owed an unnamed person $800 for an undisclosed substance.

In the alleged exchange, according to his fiance, the singer told the other party he was conversing with that he no longer wanted the substance.

The other party demanded the $800 in the text, Martin said, at which point Aaron asked if he was being threatened, which was the last communication in the exchange.

But others in his family, including twin sister Angel and his brother, Backstreet Boys member Nick, both have alleged that his death had been a long time coming.

Aaron's twin sister Angel and his Backstreet Boys member and brother Nick both said his death was a long time coming

Angel said during a podcast that she was already in therapy preparing for his death and thought 'he was gonna die', compared to the shocking reaction she had to her sister Leslie's deadly overdose in 2012.

And during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Morning in 2022, his twin sister said 'family dysfunction' likely played a big role in her two siblings' deaths.

'There's certainly a generational dysfunction issue here that comes along with it,' Angel said of their deaths. 'But as far as growing up, there was a time where we were a really close family... there was a lot of love.

'But there was a lot of chaos going on at the same time,' she added.

'My parents were just fighting all the time. Just dysfunction in the home. No boundaries. No stability. No one to talk to. It just felt like, if I had an issue going on I really couldn't have my parents to lean on to.

'Aaron did not have his innocence,' she explained. 'He was working like an adult from a very young age. And he just wanted to be home.'
