Tony Armstrong took a relaxing dip at a beach in Byron Bay on Tuesday after cheering on his girlfriend Rona Glynn-McDonald at Laneway Festival in Brisbane over the weekend.

The former ABC News Breakfast presenter, 35, was spotted cooling off with a quick swim.

Wearing a pair of multi-coloured and vibrant-patterned board shorts, Tony strolled along the shoreline while drying off under the summer sun.

Instantly recognisable with his signature moustache, he accessorised with a gold necklace and bracelet on his right wrist.

The ex-AFL star appeared to be having the time of his life at the quiet coastal location.

Tony was later seen heading back to his car, loading up his black and brown-checkered towel before leaving the tourist hotspot.

Tony's musician girlfriend Rona is currently touring for Laneway Festival, which kicked off last Thursday in Auckland, New Zealand before heading to Brisbane on Saturday and Sydney on Sunday.

The festival continues this weekend, with Melbourne's line-up on Friday and Adelaide on Saturday before wrapping up in Perth on Sunday.

Rona performed at all Aussie dates alongside big name stars like Charli XCX, Clairo and Beabadoobee.

Tony attended Rona's Brisbane leg of the festival and penned a gushing post to his girlfriend while they both stayed at the city's Calile Hotel.

'Mega proud of Rones who embarks on her national @lanewayfest tour today,' he wrote to his Instagram.

'Get along and see her rule! Staying @thecalilehotel and loving it!'

In the comments, Rona replied, 'Lub uuuuuu,' alongside a fire and heart emoji.

The lovebirds 'hard launched' their romance in late 2023.

But Rona has admitted she was nervous to let the world know that she had landed the man known as 'Australia's husband'.

The couple gave a joint interview with Stellar Magazine where Rona relayed her initial concerns.

'I was really nervous in the lead-up. Given the way people speak about Tony as "Australia's husband" or "everyone's boyfriend", I was ready for the death threats,' the musician told the publication.

'I was ready to break hearts. We talked about it for months and months and months and it just felt right' she added.

Luckily Rona said the 'the positive response was overwhelming.'

'I think straight away, like half an hour later, some people were writing up articles saying I had great hair. I'd never thought of myself as someone with great hair, but they were giving me slogans and saying really lovely things' she said.

The DJ joked that the ABC News Breakfast sports presenter 'stalked' her, before clarifying that they had been socialising in the same circles.

Rona said they realised that they had almost crossed paths on a number of occasions before they finally met at one of Rona's gigs and quickly hit it off.

Meanwhile, Tony gushed about their romance.

'It's been great, honestly, been awesome,' he said.

Rona also confessed she wasn't aware of Tony's fame and public profile before they met and she only realised when other people filled her in on his career.

'I saw your Instagram and I think a couple of people had mentioned your name, and I was like, ''Who? Tony who?'' I'm not up very often watching [Tony's] 6am [ABC News Breakfast show],' she explained.

The couple have been going strong ever since they officially debuted their romance on Instagram in November, 2023 after secretly dating for 'a while'.

Just weeks after going public, they marked a huge relationship milestone and Tony introduced Rona to his beloved mother over Christmas.

Taking to Instagram on Boxing Day, he shared a heartwarming photo of Rona sharing a hug with his mother Margaret as they spent the festive period together.

'Full hearts, can't lose,' Tony wrote over the snap, proving how serious their relationship is getting.

Speaking with Daily Mail Australia at the 2023 TikTok Awards, Tony revealed things have been getting serious between the pair and said he's happy the relationship has been embraced by his fans.
