Speculation has been rife in the Italian media that Tom Cruise would be among the stars setting down in Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortino and even playing a role in its opening ceremony on Friday.
Some reports suggested the Mission: Impossible star had rented a luxury chalet on the outskirts of the glitzy resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo, which is hosting the alpine skiing, bobsleigh, luge and curling events.
Others hopefully suggested he might reprise his daredevil antics of the Paris 2024 Olympics when he abseiled off the roof of the Stade de France during the closing ceremony.
Deadline is sorry to disappoint Cruise fans in Italy, but we hear from good sources that the actor will not be in Italy during the period of the Games, which officially run February 6-22. The denial runs true given that Cruise was spotted out and about in L.A. on Wednesday night.
There will still be plenty of stars around for the 2026 Winter Games.
Snoop Dogg has touched down for another tour of duty as a special correspondent for NBC’s Olympics coverage, while Grammy winner Usher, Oscar winner Marisa Tomei, Overcompensating creator Benito Skinner and singer-songwriter Maggie Rodgers were among the guests Thursday at an event in Milan hosted by Ralph Lauren, the official outfitter of Team USA since 2008.
Mariah Carey is also already in the city as one of the main headliners of the opening ceremony. A dress rehearsal Wednesday revealed that one of her numbers will be a rendition of the Italian 1960s classic “Nel blu, dipinto di blu,” more commonly known as “Volare.”
