If it feels like you are struggling to crawl through the fog of today’s Connections puzzle, we can help shine a light through it. There are some of the usual traps waiting around to suck players in, but there are some helpful clues around as well if you know where to look. That’s where we can help you out, as we have all the insight on this puzzle that you will need to navigate the fog.
If you are interested in trying out a word search with a twist, you should try out the daily Strands puzzle. Made by the same people who make Connections, the Strands puzzle has all the feeling of a traditional word search but is built on a central theme. That theme is hidden within the puzzle, which you can find by making a word or phrase that goes from one side of the puzzle to the other. It is a different kind of challenge, and one I particularly enjoy.
Today's Connections Category Hints
NOVEMBER 01 #509
It’s the first day of November and with the fall season growing deeper, the Connections’ puzzles will likely continue to get harder. Today the challenge mostly consists of recognizing what the categories are conveying, as there are not as many potential crossovers as in other puzzles. To start your November off right, here are four clues to help you out:
- One category is about how you might move when you want to be sneaky
- One category is about four different ways one specific beverage might be made
- One category is about four different varieties of the same kind of food
- One category is about four words that all come before the same word in a phrase - that word is a result of something else

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained
CRAWL | CREEP | DRAG | INCH |
I did not get this category first, but that was partially due to recognizing a bigger clue first. I did take some time on this one, as I thought that DRAG had the potential to go with PUFF and DRAFT as ways to inhale something. However, I could not find a fourth word, and that is usually a big hint that it is incorrect, so I went with my original gut feeling and put these four words together. There was also not a different word to replace DRAG present, but it is always good to double-check just in case.
Green Answers: Revealed & Explained
BOTTLE | CAN | DRAFT | TAP |
At this point, I had 8 words left in the puzzle and was trying to figure out how to differentiate them. In the end, they all could be nouns or verbs and they all do have food and drink connotations. In the end, I was looking at BOTTLE and CAN and trying to figure out what could go with them, and I eventually realized that drinks can come from these or from a TAP. It took me a minute to recognize DRAFT, but once I did I was home free.

BALL | CURL | DOODLE | PUFF |
This one I got last and did not have to think about much as a result, but these words did through me for a loop in several previous categories. Separating them out from the green words was the most difficult. I still do not actually know what kind of cheese snack comes in a DOODLE, and that was the word that I thought was strange in the final 8. Regardless, it did make me hungry for some cheesy goodness.
Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained
BUTTERFLY | DOMINO | HALO | PLACEBO |
This one actually had a big hint that seemingly glared at me at the beginning of the puzzle. Seeing BUTTERFLY and PLACEBO one right after the other is what tipped me off. When I saw DOMINO as well, I was convinced beyond a doubt. It was then a matter of finding the final word, which I eventually guessed was HALO. I looked that one up later, and it is actually very interesting to read about, and I recommend you do as well.
