5 hours ago 4

If you need a bit of a lift to help you solve today’s Connections puzzle, you may need a few tips and tricks to do so. There are a lot of different ways to solve any puzzle, and your perspective on certain words will shape how you solve it. Sometimes, the best way to solve it is to get a slightly different perspective to help you see the words in a new way. It is often the best way to solve it, as perspective changes everything.

If you want a challenging puzzle but something doable, then the NYT’s Letter Boxed puzzle is the way to go. It’s doable because you get as many chances as you need until time runs out at the end of the day. However, it’s challenging because you have to both find the words and string them together in the right order. Once you get the rhythm down, it will become a lot easier to do so, but it is a nice challenge to try every day.

Today's Connections Category Hints

JANUARY 25 #594

Lodge in Connections Categories January 25

I found today’s puzzle a little challenging, but I was able to solve it correctly in the end. There are some tricky words because of how they are categorized together. The last two categories are particularly hard to separate. There are some fun words mixed in, but one hint for free is that none of the categories are based on what the words mean. That means you will not be looking for synonyms, making it a little harder to separate each category out.

  • One category is about four different things you would experience in a particular public institution
  • One category is about four things you would find at a specific vacation destination
  • One category is about four words that all share a similar lineage
  • One category is about four words that could all be changed by adding a particular set of letters to them

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

SCHOOL PERIODS

CLASS

HOMEROOM

LUNCH

RECESS

This category was the first one I got and the easiest to recognize unless you are very familiar with some of the others. Almost everyone ends up in school at some point, and even homeschooled kids would likely be familiar with LUNCH and CLASS enough to look for other school-related words. RECESS can be used in a court context, but the meanings are the same, and HOMEROOM at least sounds like something that would take place alongside the others. Additionally, there are no other “school” words that stand out.

Green Answers: Revealed & Explained

LIFT

LODGE

MOGUL

SLOPE

This was also the second category I got, and I still think it’s fairly recognizable. LIFT and LODGE are the words I would associate with a number of different things, but skiing does come to mind quite fast. SLOPE is also a common enough term that it feels pretty recognizable. MOGUL, on the other hand, does not unless you are more experienced. I happen to know it, probably from watching the Olympics, but it was the word I added in last.

Blue Answers: Revealed & Explained

WORDS DERIVED FROM JAPANESE

EMOJI

GINKGO

KARAOKE

TYCOON

This was where things started to get tricky, and I ended up solving this one last. I said the last 8 words aloud to myself, I studied the end and the beginning of each word, and I looked up what GINKGO meant to see if it helped. I wanted TYCOON to be somehow related to the Roller Coaster Tycoon series, as someone who grew up playing the original one. That being said, I was happy to just select these words at the very end because I surprised myself with the next category.

Purple Answers: Revealed & Explained

WORDS AFTER THE PREFIX "TRI-"

ANGLE

CYCLE

DENT

POD

I couldn’t tell you how I solved this, as I didn’t really have a reason for why I picked these 4 out of the rest. I was staring at the last 8, having done all the above things, when my brain suddenly just decided that ANGLE, CYCLE, DENT, and POD made the most sense together. I have no clue what instinct kicked in, and I surprised myself more than anyone. I would hope that it’s just seven months of solving Connections everyday, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
