If you are struggling to get through today’s Connections puzzle, we have all the tips and tricks you need to get over the hump. There are some pitfalls around in this one, but the right details will have you ready and fully prepared to finish the puzzle. There are plenty of options for how it could go, but we want this to be the best and smoothest experience possible and we have the right clues to allow that to happen.

If you want a different kind of word-game, the NYT’s Spelling Bee puzzle is a great one to try out. It is not super difficult and while there is a way to “win” you are not required to reach that threshold to have fun. The more words you guess, the better your score and if you guess all words that could be made with the available letters, you get an even better score and can brag about it to your friends. That shouldn’t be the only reason you play, but let’s be real, it is one of the most motivating ones.

Blueprint in Connections Categories February 13

This puzzle is a bit easier than yesterday, depending on how well you pick up on some of the clues. For me, I was able to get these ones fairly quickly, which was mainly due to my experience with other things. There are definitely some places where I could have gotten stuck, and a lot of tricky words that could be seen in different lights.

  • One category is about something that will help you make something else
  • One category is about something you can do toward someone else in good intentions
  • One category is about a certain category of words that share a grammatical purpose
  • One category is about four words that come before a different word in a phrase - that word is something you can go on

MOLD

Today, I did actually solve all the categories in order! It is rare for that to happen, particularly since I usually find harder categories easier and vice versa. However, that was not the case today and I managed to go in order. This one I almost guessed wrong, as HEAD and GUIDE had me going in that direction instead. However, then I saw BLUEPRINT and I managed to turn things around before I submitted the guess. In the end, that ended up setting the tone for the rest of the puzzle when I was about to make a mistake.

TOKEN

This one was not that difficult, and I don’t think there are a lot of words you could get in this category instead. Perhaps MODEL or MOLD might fit here, if you hadn’t solved the other one, but there were not many other words that I think would go here. I thought it was fairly straightforward, but if you came to it a little earlier and not in order, it would be much more difficult to get it right. The next two categories I can see getting a little more mixed up once you arrive there.

MIGHT

MUST

WILL

On this one, MIGHT and WILL could fairly easily get mixed up into POWER and end up with you making a wrong guess. For me, I saw MIGHT and MUST and didn’t even look at the other words because they clicked as verbs together in my head right away. I blame all the grammar that got beat into me when I was in a language program in undergrad. But because of that, it felt more straightforward. If I had been wrong, I would have been much more confused and unsure what to try next.

EGO

GUILT

HEAD

POWER

At this point, I just had to select the last words. I think all four of these words could end up in other parts of the puzzle in various categories or grouped with words that would create an entirely different one. That can make it hard, and I just happened to get a little lucky today. With any luck, that streak will continue, but I am not going to kid myself into thinking that will be true.
