Timothy Olyphant is all set to return to the small screen in an upcoming Apple TV show, and it is hard not to notice how his new role seems similar to the one he played in a forgotten movie.

Although Timothy Oplyphant has many diverse movies and TV roles under his belt, he is best known for playing characters in modern Western and crime dramas like Deadwood and Justified. Some may even recognize him more for his portrayal of Kirsh in Alien: Earth and Clark Ross in Stick. Regardless of how one perceives his on-screen presence, it looks like the upcoming Apple TV drama in question is about to change how he is seen.

His role in the show seems nothing like his characters from recent years and is more reminiscent of his part in a forgotten movie.

Timothy Olyphant’s Breaking A Long-Running Trend With His Role In Apple TV’s Lucky

Some of Timothy Olyphant's most popular acting projects in recent years, from movies and shows like Deadwood, Justified, The Mandalorian, and Snowden, have had him play a lawman or adjacent figures. After seeing him fit the same archetype in so many movies and shows, it is hard not to associate his quiet menace and dry, effortless charm with characters who command authority and walk the fine line between enforcing the law and bending it when necessary.

However, as interesting as Olyphant might seem in his lawman roles, he might be even better fit for the part he will play in Apple TV's Lucky.

Based on Marissa Stapley's book of the same name, Apple TV's Lucky is a crime drama that focuses on a con artist (played by Anya Taylor Joy) who is forced to go on the run after a multi-million first goes wrong. The show will feature Timothy Olyphant as the main character's father, John, who taught her everything she knows about breaking the law and even instilled a twisted moral code in her.

By portraying an outlaw con-artist in the upcoming Apple TV show, Olyphant will seemingly bring something different to the screen after a long time and even potentially channel one of his forgotten characters.

Long Before Lucky, Timothy Olyphant Played Slick Outlaw In A Cult Movie

Timothy Olyphant was also a part of 2004's coming-of-age movie, The Girl Next Door. Although he only appears in the second half of the movie, he perfectly portrays a slick, manipulative adult film producer who uses charm and intimidation to control those around him. His character in Apple TV's Lucky also seems like a similarly morally grey figure, suggesting he will step away from his lawman archetype and embrace a far more unpredictable presence.

While only time will tell how the Apple TV show will turn out, Timothy Olyphant's performance is one thing viewers can look forward to. And if all goes well for Apple TV's Lucky, it might also get renewed for another season, which could pave the way for Olyphant's return as the antagonistic character.
