Award-winning actors Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey are teaming up again following their previous feature together over a decade ago.

Chalamet and McConaughey starred together in the Christian Nolan-directed sci-fi film Interstellar in 2014. The two played father and son, and is where the two actors first met, according to Ramin Setoodeh, Variety co-editor in chief and co-president. Now, they are going to work together again for a town hall event via streaming. Read Setoodeh's comments on the reunion below:

And at Variety, we love a reunion. Coming off the success of this season of ‘Actors on Actors,’ we are thrilled to once again collaborate with CNN on this one-of-a-kind town hall event. We can’t wait to bring together two of the most daring actors in Hollywood.

The CNN-streamed event will allow fans to get a better glimpse into the artistry of McConaughey and Chalamet. It will also highlight the growing relationship between the network and the outlet, according to Amy Entelis, CNN’s VP of creative executive for originals and creative development for worldwide.

This special event underscores the strength of CNN’s partnership with Variety and our shared commitment to thoughtful, premium experiences that bring audiences closer to the artists they admire. Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey offer a masterclass in craft and creativity, which is exactly the kind of elevated programming we’re proud to bring to CNN audiences and our streaming subscribers.

A great deal has occurred over the years regarding Chalamet and McConaughey, who haven't shared a film together in 12 years. Chalamet has recently starred in Wonka, the Dune franchise, and most recently, the ping-pong champion Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme. His work has not gone unnoticed despite not winning an Academy Award for any of his recent films.

He has, however, been nominated for Best Actor three times: Call Me by Your Name (2018), A Complete Unknown (2025), and Marty Supreme (2026). The latter also has a Best Picture nomination and is directed by Josh Safdie. Chalamet is still waiting for his Oscars' moment, but he did win a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

McConaughey already won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Dallas Buyer's Club in 2014, but has continued to work and recently starred in The Lost Bus and The Rivals of Amziah King in 2025, the latter of which releases in theaters on August 14.

If you want to check out what's going on between Chalamet and McConaughey twelve years after Interstellar, “A CNN & Variety Town Hall Event: Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey” will air on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. ET and can be streamed here.
