This Whoop Copycat Doesn’t Gouge You With Subscriptions

As great as having a fitness wearable that doesn’t distract you with another screen is on paper, I bet there’s one thing about gadgets like those made by Whoop that people aren’t as excited about—subscriptions. If you love what Whoop is putting down with its screenless fitness bands but don’t want to pay another subscription in perpetuity, Polar might be there to give you just what you need.

As a part of IFA 2025, Polar announced the Polar Loop, which does what Whoop does and looks just as inoffensive on your body. The Polar Land tracks sleep, steps, activity levels, heart rate, and more, and the best part is that it doesn’t charge you a monthly fee to do all of that stuff. As long as we’re comparing to Whoop, though, it’s only fair to note that the Polar Land does have lower battery life. While Whoop says its band can last 14 days on one charge, Polar’s version lasts 8 days. That’s a small price to pay for a non-recurring price from Polar, though.

Both fitness and health bands start at $199, but as I noted before, you’ll have to continue paying Whoop yearly if you want to keep tracking your health and fitness, while Polar’s entrant is a one-time cost. How the two compare in practice remains to be seen (we’ve not used the Polar Land for ourselves), but on the surface, it’s hard not to consider the Polar Loop a much stronger option if you don’t care to add another pricey subscription to your life.

The Polar Loop is available for preorder starting Sept. 3 and is expected to ship starting Sept. 10. There are various colors, though the only ones that won’t cost extra are Greige Sand, Night Black, and Brown Copper. Sorry to fans of red and blue, you’ll have to pay $20 extra for your color preference!
