The crypto and NFT gaming space is busier than ever lately, what with prominent games starting to release, token airdrops piling up, and a seemingly constant array of other things happening at all times. It’s a lot to take in!

Luckily, Decrypt’s GG is all over it. And if you need a quick way to get caught up on the latest moves around crypto video games, we’re happy to present This Week in Crypto Games.

Our weekend roundup serves up the biggest news from the past week, along with a few other tidbits you might have missed. We also showcase a few of our original stories from the week.

Biggest news

New Axie Infinity MMO: Sky Mavis, the creator of seminal play-to-earn game Axie Infinity, announced the franchise’s new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game on Wednesday. Immediately, playtest signups opened, letting players potentially earn crypto and NFTs by referring friends, racking up over 1 million prospective users in the time since.

Axie Infinity: Atia’s Legacy is an MMO that sees players lead a team of up to four Axie monsters to farm, fight, and complete quests inside the mythical world of Lunacia. This world has been destroyed following years of war, leaving ancient ruins and mystical secrets for the player to discover.

The game is set to enter its first alpha play test during “summer 2025,” the trailer says, after starting development in May 2024.

Robinhood's trivia game: Trading platform Robinhood launched its Robinhood Trivia Live game on Wednesday, led by former HQ Trivia host Scott Rogowsky, offering up $1 million worth of Bitcoin prizes—and drawing nearly 400,000 players in the process.

The game, which consisted of 12 multiple choice questions about crypto and finance, began with more than 392,600 players. By the time the final round arrived, only 1,210 users were still in play, angling for a share of the Bitcoin stash.

These players were then asked to identify the largest IPO in 2024 by deal size, with a total of 615 answering correctly to each earn a share worth $1,626.01 in Bitcoin, approximately 0.018 BTC.

On Thursday, Robinhood held another $1 million Bitcoin trivia game exclusively for subscribers to its premium Gold service—and gave a couple dollars' worth of Dogecoin to all players, as well.

Crypto: The Game is back: Survivor and Squid Game-style virtual competition Crypto: The Game is back for its third season. In previous iterations, players have been assigned to one of 10 tribes, where they’ll compete in a series of daily elimination tasks, with participants being voted out at each stage until there is only one player left. But this time, there will be one key difference.

Eliminated players have one shot to get back into the game through "classic arcade games, digital scavenger hunts, and crypto puzzles"—with one shot at a resurrection. Also, the winner of season three will claim the full prize pool, when previously the developers took a 10% cut of the NFT ticket sales.
