When I turned 25, I started dealing with breakouts for the very first time. I was lucky in high school and college, but as a grown adult with a fully formed frontal lobe, I all of a sudden started experiencing acne — and I had no idea what to do about it.
Now, I keep my hormonal acne under control with the help of oral medication, but I still break out when I use products that don't agree with my skin, certain foods, or when I'm on my period. (Acne girlies, I know you get it.) For those moments, I rely on beauty tools and products that help stop my acne in its tracks. One such product? The Current Body Anti-Acne Mask: Series 2 ($470). The LED mask has become an integral part of my routine for a number of reasons.

What I Like About the Current Body Anti-Acne Mask: Series 2
One of my favorite things about the newest version of this mask is how comfortable it is to wear. I've tried other Current Body masks in the past, and although I felt like they worked well, a few weren't exactly what I'd call comfortable to wear. This has an extra head strap, which has made things a lot easier.
I've also found that consistent use has helped keep my acne at bay, especially when it comes to the texture I'm used to dealing with on both cheeks. I've noticed that my skin looks brighter immediately after use, and I'm hoping that with continued, consistent use, my skin will keep looking better and better. I like to use it immediately when I feel a zit coming on, and it's even helped me get rid of under-the-surface acne before it gets to the top of my skin.
How to Use the Current Body Anti-Acne Mask: Series 2
The brand recommends using the mask on clean, dry skin. It suggests not using skin-care products like moisturizers or vitamin C serums, because certain products — including makeup — can block LED light from entering the skin. From there, start out by doing a sensitivity test to make sure your skin can handle the treatment. From there, all you have to do is switch it on and relax; the product will automatically turn off after a 10-minute treatment session. Once finished, you can complete your normal skin-care routine.
Personally, I like using this product in the morning immediately after waking up. I usually wear it while I journal, after I come inside from getting my daily morning sunlight. I don't like to use it at night, because I try to avoid blue light as much as possible in the evening.
What to Consider Before Trying the Current Body Anti-Acne Mask: Series 2
One thing to note about this product is that because it uses blue light and red light at the same time, the resulting color coming from the mask will be purple. At first, I was a bit confused and I wasn't sure if I could use one and then switch to the other.
Is the Current Body Anti-Acne Mask: Series 2 Worth the Splurge?
Priced at $470, this LED mask is not cheap. However, it is in line with similar products, and it does come with an added chin strap for a complete treatment. Additionally, although the focus of this mask is to heal acne through blue light, it also boosts collagen production via red light. If you're struggling with mild to moderate acne and in the market for an LED mask that targets blemishes specifically, I'd say this product is worth the splurge.
