Captain America ready to fight in Avengers Endgame

Chris Evans played the pivotal role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) , but there is one moment in his lengthy run as Cap that stands above the rest. Steve Rogers became the first Avenger after waking up from decades of being frozen in ice. This mild-mannered hero initially started life as a scrappy young man with more heart and fight than anyone, but his body did not match his fighting spirit.

Thanks to a chemical compound which became known as the Super Soldier Serum, Steve was given the opportunity to have his exterior match his interior, with his body being transformed into the perfect fighting machine. However, in all of his time as Cap, there is one moment that felt like the ultimate payoff for a hero who gave everything to protect those in need, and it came just before his retirement.

Why The "Avengers Assemble" Scene Is The Best

The Culmination Of Years As A Superhero In The MCU

In Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers is one of the few remaining heroes, after half of all life across the universe was snapped out of existence by Thanos. Steve is determined to try and find a way to fix things, but even his remaining teammates struggle to hold on to hope in a world that has been shattered by so much loss. Fortunately, when Scott Lang appears with what seems to be an answer to the time travel problem, Cap gathers the team together, and they go to work at restoring the universe and making everyone whole once again.

The mission is a success, and despite seemingly impossible challenges, Cap and the Avengers bring everyone back. But the moment when this happens is a stunning and unforgettable sequence starting with Cap hearing his old friend, Sam Wilson, repeating the familiar "on your left," into Cap's ear. Over a visually stunning 5 minute sequence, the heroes gather behind Cap, and he readies himself for the biggest fight of his life. And to kick things off, Cap says the iconic words, "Avengers Assemble."

Why Captain America Is So Important To Chris Evans' Career

It Changed Everything For Chris Evans Acting Career

These words may come at the end of Chris Evans' run as Cap, but the importance and significance of the moment can't be overstated. For over a decade, fans of Marvel Comics waited to hear those two words. Cap was always meant to be the one to rally the heroes together, but with the events of Civil War splitting the team apart, and then half of all life being wiped out, it seemed less likely that they would ever be uttered in the MCU. And for Evans as an actor, he had dedicated the best part of a decade to the MCU, and been an important part of building something that was so much bigger than him individually.

The moment when he got to finally utter this line is a culmination of that hard work, and the progress made with Cap as a leader to the Avengers. Evans embraced the role wholeheartedly, and he became the face of the Avengers, but until this moment, that seemed more like a title than an actual meaningful purpose. This scene changed that entirely, and serves as the perfect way to wrap up the story for the man lost in time, who struggled to fit in, but then found his place as the leader to the incredible heroes of the MCU.
