USB Flash drives remain useful

USB drives aren't anywhere near as popular as they used to be, what with cloud storage and portable SSDs taking over many everyday storage tasks, but they still have a place as part of a well-rounded plan for protecting important files.

Years ago I lost a load of data when my PC actually caught on fire after a hard drive failure, and since then I've become obsessed with backing up my files across different media to avoid losing anything important again.

My digital life is backed up to the cloud through several services, but that one bad experience (and the time ransomware briefly locked me out of my computer) taught me not to rely on just one method.

While I have backups of my files on portable SSDs, I also like to keep copies of important documents, photos, and similar files on password-protected flash drives.
