2026 is a critical year for X-Men. At the end of the year, they finally make their long-heralded, highly-anticipated MCU debut in Avengers: Doomsday. Mutantkind is expected to play a pivotal role in the MCU moving forward, and all of that hinges on their first appearance. And in the comics, the franchise, the X-franchise faces just as much pressure.

In 2024, Marvel ended X-Men's extended "Krakoan Era," which fans were deeply invested in. Consensus among regular X-readers seemed to be that they wished the era would continue, but Marvel had other plans. Yet it has struggled to find its footing with its new era up until now. That is, until the debut of Graymatter Lane.
