In the world of The Witcher, things sometimes move slowly. Although the TV series is pumping out new entries and spinoffs all the time, the games take longer to make. The official launch of the base game of The Witcher 3 was back in 2015, and although we still have DLC coming out for it somehow, that's a long time between mainline entries.
That all changed in 2022, when developer CD Projekt Red let fans know that The Witcher 4 was in the works, and it would star Ciri this time around; a massive shift from the Geralt-led series. Thanks to an official update directly from CD Projekt Red on X, we know when The Witcher 4 is coming.
In a video shared over social this week, CD Projekt Red Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski shared an update on the fourth mainline Witcher: "We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you...this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date...the Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window."
There's some bad news though. The Witcher 4 will not be featured as heavily this week, in favor of showcasing The Witcher 3 surprise DLC.
