The stars of The Walking Dead: Dead City finally voice their opinions on the controversial shipping.

Dead City is one of the many spinoffs for AMC's The Walking Dead series. Created by Eli Jorné, the show follows Maggie and Negan from the flagship series, making it the franchise's first direct sequel and the fifth television series set within the universe. Jorné served as showrunner for the first two seasons before Seth Hoffman took over the role for the upcoming third season.

The debate over Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith's relationship has followed The Walking Dead: Dead City has been circling the internet for years, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. As season 3 of the show approaches, the stars of the show officially address whether they believe two characters should actually be together.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan about The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who portray Maggie and Negan, reveal their takes on the idea. Cohan explained that while fans may think they want to see the disastrous duo together, they would immediately regret it if they actually witnessed what a relationship between the two actually looks like. The actor stated, "People think they want it, but they don't."

Cohan is so against the idea that she even went as far as to say she hated the thought. She added that a romantic relationship between the two wouldn't be as thrilling as a lot of viewers believe it could be. She explained how it could probably be one of the "least interesting" storylines Dead City could possibly explore.

Morgan, on the other hand, had the exact opposite reaction. He was completely on board with Maggie and Negan becoming an on-screen couple. The actor said that although he hasn't been keeping track of what fans are saying about shipping the two characters, he wouldn't mind seeing where it goes. Morgan simply stated, "I'm all for it."

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 will be released on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 9:00 PM ET and 6:00 PM PT on AMC and AMC+.
