The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3, Episode 7 Trailer: Negan Holds Maggie At Gunpoint As Season Finale Looms

The trailer for season 3, episode 7 has been released, showing Negan holding Maggie at gunpoint as the season finale approaches. Dead City season 3, episode 6 was an alternate universe episode, theorizing what may have happened if Maggie and Negan met in a world where the zombie apocalypse never happened. The hour featured themes of cycles, with the core duo seemingly stuck in their own ways no matter how much they try to change. This is reflected in the real world at the end, when Hershel reveals Negan attacked Dillard.

Now, AMC has released a trailer for Dead City season 3, episode 7, which sees Negan targeted by the hospital group after what happened to Fabian and, presumably, Dillard. The trailer indicates it'll show why Negan attacked his new best friend, while Renata reiterates how dangerous he is to the community they're trying to build. This leads to a confrontation between him and Maggie, which seemingly ends with Negan aiming a gun at the back of her head, asking her to choose a side.

Maggie and Negan's confrontation seemed inevitable after he killed Fabian in season 3, episode 5. Renata already didn't trust him, having discovered he killed the Dama, thus going against the code her community has, despite his intentions being to protect Maggie and Hershel. Now, she has a reason to go after him, having already promised to send men his way to try and have him arrested. Of course, it doesn't sound like things go according to plan, even with every Dead City character coming after him.

Despite how closely connected Negan's been to Maggie over the last few episodes, there's still a bridge between their ideologies that neither seems able to cross. Maggie wants to restore order to the world in a similar vein to what things were like before the apocalypse, with a fair process even for people who do something wrong. Negan, on the other hand, believes in destroying threats before they can become dangerous, his decision to kill Fabian stemming from a protective place despite the brutality of the act.

But, as Dead City's alternate universe episode demonstrates, the pair seem locked in an ouroboros cycle, where they can't escape from their inner nature. Maggie preserves tradition at the cost of what she wants, while Negan takes his view of justice too far. Season 3, episode 6 hinted they'd be trapped in this cycle even if the apocalypse never happened, while episode 7's confrontation seemingly hints that they're about to make the same mistake in the real world.

However, the trailer may also be a red herring, since Maggie and Negan now have a chance to break the cycle that leads them down paths of misery. The alternate universe episode showcased what would happen if they gave in to their nature instead of finding peace with something new. However, Dead City's real timeline could see this reversed, even as the odds are stacked against Negan while Maggie finds herself caught between two sides of a deadly conflict.
