The Wait Is Over: Stranger Things Just Returned With A Will Spinoff Series, And It's Already #1

For Stranger Things fans worldwide, it was perhaps a tough time saying goodbye to the series as it completed its run at the end of 2025. It loaded five seasons with sci-fi, horror, human drama, and some truly impressive guest stars as the series expanded beyond the mysterious disappearance of Will Byers to an emerging existential threat to the world. But even these same stories have benefited immensely from focusing on a different perspective. Freshly resurfaced and reformatted as a vertical scroll webcomic, Dark Horse's Stranger Things stories appear to be getting a new lease on life on the Webtoon platform.

Simply labeled Stranger Things, the new Webtoon release has quickly climbed the charts as a dominant presence on the platform, surprising precisely nobody due to its immense pre-existing popularity. The series already features eight reformatted episodes, currently focusing on the four-issue miniseries Stranger Things: The Other Side from 2018, with newly-released installments every Thursday, its first releases already free, with limited-time paywalls for later chapters for those eager to stay on top of every new drop. The best part is, as one can quickly determine from the synopsis, it appears more Dark Horse Stranger Things comics are on the way.

Stranger Things Shot To #1 With Its Latest Release Nobody's Talking About Enough

Stranger Things released eight chapters or "episodes" on Webtoon on July 15, 2026, mostly covering the events of Stranger Things: The Other Side. Originally debuted on September 26, 2018, the series focuses on Will Byers' time trapped in the Upside-Down, showing in greater focus the difficulties he faced while trying to survive against the Demogorgon, communicating with his mother, Joyce, and glimpses of others with whom he crossed paths, like Barb and Eleven. The series quickly shot to #1 on the Horror charts, unsurprisingly, with Will's desperate saga of survival and isolation grabbing the attention of both the original comic's readers and Webtoon's vast audience.

For all audiences who have watched Stranger Things all the way through, it's a pretty great feeling revisiting the story in its relative infancy. Will's experiences lay out nicely just how traumatic his time was in season 1, including devastating moments such as him trying, often in vain, to communicate with the other side, with even the famous Christmas light wall scene showing just the depth of his plight. It's dark, eerie, and feels significantly less hopeful than the relative relief Joyce once faced in learning Will was, in fact, not dead on the other side. But as the webtoon appears ready to close the books on this Stranger Things story, the app's synopsis already points to its next addition.

Other Stranger Things Comics Should Be Coming To The Webtoon App Soon

Almost certainly not intended to go along with the Stranger Things: The Other Side component to the Webtoon release, the app lists, word-for-word, the synopsis given for Stranger Things: Six, which originally released its first issue on May 26, 2019. The series focuses on Francine, or Six, a Hawkins Lab test subject, depicting her particular experiences compared to those of Jane Ives (Eleven) and Kali Prasad (Eight). It's certainly a good shift from the more familiar story of Will Byers, especially for non-comic readers who'll in all likelihood see this story for the first time thanks to Webtoon.

Francine, a teenage girl with precognition, has struggled through a lifetime of exploitation: first by her parents, then by Dr. Brenner of Hawkins Laboratory. Dr. Brenner wants to harness her powers as well as those of the other gifted children that they hold captive at the lab. Wracked by increasingly disturbing visions, she sees an opportunity to change her life. But at what cost?

Given the release order of Stranger Things: The Other Side leads into Six, it's reasonable to expect other stories from the Dark Horse library of Stranger Things comics to make an appearance, so it'll be a good idea to check in regularly every Thursday as the series continues to update. With no fewer than 11 Stranger Things comics, including Dungeons & Dragons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers, in addition to one-shots and holiday specials, it could be a whole new experience just a tap away, as Webtoon continues to bring franchises across the spectrum, from Godzilla to Sonic to Star Trek, as the one-stop vertical-scrolling comics destination.
