Richard Marx has once again inspired the ire of The Voice Australia viewers after he sent home all three of his knockout round contestants.

The American singer, 62, who is a judge on the Aussie installment of the singing competition left host Sonia Kruger and the Coaches stunned when he broke to the rules to dismiss three hopefuls on his team.

In a shock move first,  Marx refused to send Cherry Green, Saem Millward or Dicko through from his final Knockout.

He insisted that none of the artists had met the standard required for the competition's next stage.

Following their solo performances, Richard made the unprecedented decision to leave a Quarter Final spot vacant on his team, leaving his fellow Coaches speechless.

'I don't feel like any of you rose to the occasion,' Richard said.

'I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, but I'm not going to take any of you.'

The extraordinary decision meant Richard knowingly entered the Quarter Finals with one less artist on his team, leaving the other Coaches stunned.

'I've done The Voice for 15 years around the world and I've never seen this before,' Ronan Keating said.

Viewers tuning in were not impressed, with several sharing their thoughts on social media.

'Way to humiliate them, Richard,' wrote one person on X, while another said, 'Those three were screwed over by Richard Marx and his song choices.'

'Holy s**t, I'm shocked. Why does Richard not let them in?' wrote someone else.

'Honestly, I think the song choices were the real problem here,' shared one fan on Instagram.

'I was in shock. Even though it is not my first time seeing it on The Voice around the globe, I was floored,' said another viewer.

'None of them seemed to suit these three contestants or their voices, and Richard chose the songs. To then send all three home because the performances didn't quite land feels incredibly unfair.'

Another person felt sorry for the contestants, saying that Richard had 'stitched them up' by making poor song choices.

'A coach is supposed to coach. Have some hope and belief in these artists and coach them. Rude,' someone else said.

'This man is nasty. He chose the songs for these singers. All he had to do was choose one,' said another person.

'Should've chosen better songs, dude,' yet one more person chimed in.

Others supported Richard, with one person writing: 'He's right. First coach that called it as it was. None of the three deserved to go through.'
