Lewis Pullman Shares Surprising Way Dad Bill Pullman Advises Him Through Life
Bill Pullman is letting Lewis Pullman be a maverick.
As the Top Gun: Maverick actor’s stardom only continues to grow, he revealed the “gems” his seasoned actor dad has shared to help him navigate the new chapter of life.
“He’s very much in my corner and gives a lot of career advice,” Lewis told E! News’ Will Marfuggi at the premiere of his new movie Remarkably Bright Creatures in Los Angeles April 30, “but he’s not a father that’s like, ‘Do it this way, do it that way.’”
Indeed, the 33-year-old emphasized that the While You Were Sleeping star isn’t by any means laying out the blueprint for him.
“He definitely allows me to carve my own path,” Lewis continued, “and make my own mistakes and learn from them—and I think that’s helped me a lot in so many ways.”
Sometimes, though, the Lessons in Chemistry alum’s path intertwines with the one his father walked before him. After all, he stars in Remarkably Bright Creatures alongside Sally Field, who his dad previously worked with in the 2019 National Theatre Live production of All My Sons.
However, while Lewis saw his dad’s performance in the World War II drama, he admitted that he didn’t get the chance to meet Sally, citing to his reaction to the play.
“It’s beautiful and challenging to see your family in a role like that,” Lewis admitted. “It’s a heartbreaking story and I didn’t go back and say to Sally afterward because I was so kind of paralyzed from that experience. It affected me so much.”
Luckily, the duo did not miss a beat once Lewis and Sally officially crossed paths on the set of Remarkably Bright Creatures, out May 8.

“I think every scene brought something new and something surprising,” Lewis mused of working with the Steel Magnolias star. “She’s so exhilarating to work with because she’s so in tune with the moment and with her instincts. She knew the character so, so well and the story so well so basically my job was just to react and be there with her and that was very freeing and very exciting.”
