The Strangers’ Next Chapter Puts Faces to the Terror

1 week ago 10

Back in May, Lionsgate released a remake of The Strangers that also functioned as a relaunch and part one of a concurrently made trilogy. Despite pretty negative reviews, it went on to make a lot of money ($47.8 million!), and now it’s time to see if Chapter 2 can turn things around, or at the very least be another moneymaker for the studio.

Directed by Renny Harlin, the trilogy centers on millennial couple Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez), who holed up in an AirBnB cabin during their road trip. From that point on, things went pretty badly for the pair: the titular masked psychopaths showed up to terrorize them, ultimately stabbing Ryan to death. Maya just barely managed to survive the first film, and Chapter 2 picks up in the immediate aftermath as she escapes the hospital to try and get the hell outta town.

But wouldn’t ya know it, that’s easier said than done. Not only do the people of Venus, Oregon seem sketchy as all hell, her seemingly nice saviors might not be as on the up and up as they initially appear when they let her into their truck. The trailer all but spells out that the entire community could be in on the Strangers’ whole deal, and if that’s true, that means there’s multiple versions of the same killers could come gunning for Maya at any moment, which is terrifying when you already survived an attack just hours earlier.

Harlin previously said the second and third parts of this Strangers trilogy would do their own thing while telling Maya’s story. How much worse can things get for her over the next few days? We’ll find out when The Strangers: Chapter 2 hits theaters in 2025, followed by Chapter 3 at a later date.
