Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5Skeleton Crew episode 5 features some very exciting Easter eggs and references, many of which connect to the ancient pirate history of the Star Wars galaxy. Continuing their search for a way home to At Attin and its legendary "eternal treasure", the young crew of The Onyx Cinder and Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood receive a new heading from the ship's first mate, SM-33 (Nick Frost). However, the secret pirate lair they expected to find looks quite different at the onset.
As revealed by SM-33 at the end of Skeleton Crew episode 4, the coordinates to At Attin were erased by the old captain of The Onyx Cinder before he allegedly killed his crew on At Achrann. However, the droid's recollections appear to be quite unreliable following this new episode. With that in mind, here are all the biggest Easter eggs and references we found connected to the Star Wars galaxy's ancient pirate history (and more).
The Biggest Easter Eggs and References In Skeleton Crew Episode 5
"You Have A Lot To Learn About Pirates"
Captain Tak Rennod - The reverse of Donner (like The Goonies' director Richard Donner), Tak Rennod was a major pirate legend, "the most infamous pirate the galaxy's ever known". As such, he may be the canon replacement for Legends' pirate king Xim The Despot.
The Mysterious Onyx Cinder - The Onyx Cinder's name is finally spoken in-universe, thanks to SM-33 and Jod who confirm the ship belonged to Rennod and that both vanished without a trace while searching for At Attin.
Lanupa's Many Names - According to SM-33, the luxury world of Lanupa was once known in the past as Demon’s Rest and Battle World. Coincidentally, Battleworld is the same name as the patchwork collection of merged realities created by Doctor Doom in the comics' Secret Wars, and the same could be true in the upcoming Avengers movies of the same name.
The Banking Clan - Not-so-secret supporters of the Separatists during The Clone Wars, it looks as though the Banking Clan is still active during the New Republic Era. A Muun is also shown at the spa, the same species as The Acolyte's Darth Plagueis.
New Names For Jod - More aliases are revealed for Jude Law's character, including Dash Zentin and Jodwick Zank.
Guild Jobs & Pucks - Pokkit claims she no longer works Guild jobs. She also mentions pucks, which should be familiar to Mandalorian fans.
Captain Rennod's Sigil - One could argue that Rennnod's sigil resembles the sigil of the Nihil marauders from The High Republic Era.
The Soaking Hutt - The Hutt shown taking a mud bath looks to be one of The Twins, Jabba the Hutt's cousins who debuted in The Book of Boba Fett and gifted Boba with a rancor.
Ur-Kittât Writings - Jod and the kids inspect various carvings and inscriptions around the spa, many of which look to be ur-Kittât aka the Old Tongue which has been shown in previous Star Wars projects, along with its Sith Tongue variant.
A Booby Trap With A Test - The acid pool requiring the "Greatest Sacrifice" brings to mind "The Leap of Faith" in Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, as do the other traps protecting the Holy Grail.
Wim's Brand-New Lightsaber Looks Familiar - The gold and silver lightsaber Wim finds looks a lot like the Protection & Defense style of saber that can be built as Disney's Galaxy's Edge.
The Last Old Republic Mint - The apparent source of At Attin's "Eternal Treasure" according to myth and legend.
The Pirate’s Code - Jod confirms there is indeed an official Pirate's Code in the Star Wars galaxy, just like in Pirates of the Caribbean.
