EXCLUSIVE: MomTok is returning to Hulu next month and has some new executive producers.
The stars of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which premieres its Season 4 on March 12 with all ten episodes dropping, have now been added to the production credits.
Jen Affleck, Jessi Draper, Taylor Frankie Paul, Miranda Hope, Whitney Leavitt, Mikayla Matthews, Mayci Neeley and Layla Taylor have been handed executive producer credits for Season 4, and presumably beyond (Season 5 has already been ordered).
This comes after the first two seasons of the show landed it an Emmy nomination. It was nominated for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, although it ultimately lost out to Netflix’s Love On The Spectrum.
Deadline understands that after the nomination, Rob Mills, who is EVP, Unscripted & Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television, decided that the women deserved the recognition and an EP credit after having worked closely with the producers to make it happen.
One notable absentee from that list? Demi Engemann.
Engemann, who has been warring with the other women on screen, does appear in the new season, including in the first episode, but has been billed as a friend, rather than one of the core cast, and also does not appear in the key art for the season.
Engemann, who appears to an aspiring pop star in the trailer, is seemingly asked directly by Layla Taylor, “Are you done with the show altogether?”. There’s obviously no answer, yet.
It’s not clear whether the cast renegotiated their contracts after Season 3, but contract talks were a part of the on-screen drama when it claimed that Leavitt didn’t want a pay rise but instead wanted tickets to the Oscars and a role in a scripted series.
Stars that executive producers generally get a per episode fee on top of their talent salaries.
Jeff Jenkins, who produces the show, admitted including these claims in the show was a “little inside baseball.” “Usually, a cast signs a contract for two, three, for or five cycles or seasons. They are supposed to complete that contract and then when it’s up, it’s an opportunity to renegotiate,” he told Deadline last year. “Sometimes, when a project is really well received by viewers, the reps for the talent, because everyone has agents, managers, attorneys, say, ‘We know that our contract is still in play, but these cast members have delivered you a hit, so we think they should be given a little more attention.’ That happens often.”
Season 4 continues to follow the ladies as they embark on a new stage in their lives from Taylor Frankie Paul being named as The Bachelorette to Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt appearing on Dancing with the Stars, Jessi Draper dealing with relationship issues, and Mayci Neeley going on a book tour.
The series is produced by Jeff Jenkins Productions in association with 3BMG and Walt Disney Television Alternative.
The Mormon Wives are joined by exec producers including Jeff Jenkins, Russell Jay-Staglik, Andrea Metz, Dan Cerny at Jeff Jenkins Productions. Ross Weintraub, Reinout Oerlemans at 3BMG, Lisa Filipelli, Georgia Berger, Danielle Pistotnik at Select Entertainment. Melissa Bidwell, Robin O’Neal and Stephanie Weinberg are co-exec producers.
