Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

An action hero can find trouble while looking for justice, but for many, trouble oft finds them first. And that's the sweet spot for this underrated and bruising thriller, which features some of our most favorite things: a haunted ex-soldier, a violent past that refuses to stay dead, and some serious hand-to-hand chaos. So obviously, viewers are starting to catch up and join in with all the fun.

The Nowhere Man is climbing the streaming charts on Starz, with all six episodes now available to stream. The action thriller has entered the platform’s Top 10, standing alongside major Starz titles including Spartacus: House of Ashur, Power and its spin-offs, and Outlander. Its a pretty impressive showing for a series that many are only just learning about. For the uninitiated, the synopsis for The Nowhere Man reads:

"Lukas, a former Special Forces mercenary crippled by PTSD, drifts through Johannesburg's back streets, surviving as a waste picker and crafting metal sculptures to support the shelter he calls home. He avoids attention, as he prefers a life lived in the margins, going unseen and unnoticed. But one morning, Lukas witnesses a home invasion and has no choice but to get involved. Forced back into the very world he's been trying to escape, Lukas must confront his past or risk losing the people he loves."

The cast includes Bonko Khoza (The Woman King, Red Ink) as Lukas, Naturi Naughton-Lewis (Power, Power Book II: Ghost), Dineo Rasedile (Blood Legacy, The Estate), and Greg Kriek (Black Mirror, Maze Runner: The Death Cure). The series was created by Gareth Crocker, who also directs alongside Fred Wolmarans.

Why Is 'The Nowhere Man' Taking Off?

That's an easy one: The Nowhere Man is a natural hit with audiences as it has the wandering, reluctant-hero quality that made Reacher such a monster hit, but it also carries more of the damaged-warrior weight associated with classics like Rambo. It also helps that the series is very bingable. Six episodes is enough room to build out the main character’s trauma, his survival instincts, and the people around him without turning the story into homework.

The Johannesburg setting also gives The Nowhere Man a different texture from the usual American drifter thriller. Instead of another anonymous small town or generic urban crime world, the series uses the city’s backstreets and margins to shape Lukas’ isolation. He is not just hiding from enemies. He is hiding from himself, from the system, and from a life that has already taken too much from him.

The Nowhere Man is streaming now on Starz. Stay tuned at Collider for more updates.
