The Princess Diaries 3 could be arriving sooner than expected.
Disney's The Princess Diaries franchise began in 2001 and was highly successful, focusing on Mia Thermopolis (played by Anne Hathaway) and her journey from being a normal teen in San Francisco to transforming into the princess of Genovia. Hathaway's career skyrocketed after their release and became a "modern fairytale" for young teens in the early 2000s with two successful additions in the franchise.
In an interview with Variety on the Gold Gala carpet, The Princess Diaries 3 director Adele Lim teased "fun returns" from the original cast, as well as stating that the shooting and production schedule is being worked out.
"If you were a fan of the original first two movies, I think you can look forward to a lot of fun returns. We’re going to be able to shoot in Europe and really show the audience Genovia in its full glory.
We just want to make the story right because it is a franchise that is so beloved by so many people. There are so many movies that are wish fulfillment for princesses; we don’t have a lot of wish fulfillment movies for queens. That’s what we are setting out to do here, to show a woman in her full power."
