The Night Agent Season 2: Why The French Documents Are So Important & How They Connect To Abbas' Daughter

1 week ago 12

The French documents are a crucial element in season 2 of Netflix's thriller series The Night Agent, pertaining to multiple character's arcs and roles in the story. Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) received a promotion straight from POTUS in The Night Agent's season 1 ending, making him a proper field Night Agent, working on a case with his new partner Alice (Brittany Snow). Their mission is to stop an information sale transpiring in Bangkok, with Warren (Teddy Sears) being their middleman target. Unfortunately, the mission goes wrong, and Alice is killed.

The Night Agent's season 2 cast adds several new characters who play a crucial role in the unfolding web of conspiracy. Several factions and individual parties, from information broker Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum) to the Bala crime family to the Iranian embassy in New York, are taking enormous risks with valuable intelligence. The biggest threat in the season is the Bala family's planned terrorist attack on the UN building, but Peter Sutherland and Night Action are forced to unravel other matters, like the French documents, before they can unearth the main plot.

Solomon (Berto Colon) is a fixer who works for Jacob Monroe. He's the man who kills Alice at the start of the season, making him one of the season's antagonists. However, he manages to be a fairly complex character in his own right, as he's seen having his own flashbacks and personal family struggles. Early in the season, he's shown making an exchange with Abbas (Navid Negahban), the Iranian ambassador in New York, providing expensive intelligence from his boss.

The Night Agent Season 2 Finale's Flashback Scene & How It Sets Up Season 3

The Night Agent's season 2 finale opens with a key flashback sequence, which lays the seeds for the Netflix thriller's upcoming third series.

Peter Sutherland and Night Action pursue these documents, believing they have some relation to a mysterious weapons initiative called Foxglove, following Solomon to the Iranian embassy. There, they work alongside a young woman named Noor (Arienne Mandi) to infiltrate the embassy and retrieve the documents from Abbas' office. Noor is trying to negotiate asylum in the US for her mother and brother back in Iran, and she's been trying to find information behind Abbas' back, making this the perfect opportunity for her to get what she needs. Peter, Rose (Luciane Buchanan), and Noor succeed in retrieving the documents.

Why The French Documents Were So Important In The Night Agent Season 2

Jacqueline Laurent in The Night Agent season 2

In episode 6, Peter's Night Action handler Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren) examines the documents they recovered from the Iranian mission. She realizes that they aren't related to Foxglove but are actually from a French organization called DGSE. The documents contain a list of Iranian dissidents living in Europe, which is a tangential plotline to the main Foxglove problem. Catherine is frustrated at first, but she realizes the documents must still have a connection to the actual Foxglove buyer, so she follows the lead.

Catherine finds Laurent and threatens to out her if she doesn't set up a meeting for her and Solomon.

Catherine discovers that Jacqueline Laurent, a woman who works for the UN, has been selling leaked information to Solomon, who's then been selling it to the Iranian embassy. Catherine finds Laurent and threatens to out her if she doesn't set up a meeting for her and Solomon. This finally allows Peter and Catherine to get to Solomon at the end of episode 6, which carries into episode 7. This is crucial for The Night Agent season 2's overarching narrative, but it also connects to characters at the Iranian embassy, including Noor, Abbas, and his daughter.

Throughout The Night Agent season 2, Noor finds herself in a complicated relationship with Javad (Keon Alexander), an outwardly charming man who's the head of security at the Iranian embassy. The two have a brief romantic bond at first before Javad begins to suspect that Noor might be involved in a plot against the embassy, especially after episode 5, when he starts interrogating everyone following the Night Action infiltration. Javad becomes an antagonist to Noor, nearly managing to pin her down for betraying Iran before Abbas gets involved.

Javad has made his intentions clear: he plans to search through the list and handle the dissidents without mercy, putting Abbas' daughter at risk. When Noor points this out to Abbas, he frames Javad with footage of him, accusing him of being a dissident himself before sending him back to Iran to face punishment in The Night Agent season 2 finale.
