Kyora is the next game from Core Keeper developer Pugstorm. The debut trailer, shown off at The Game Awards pre-show, exhibits players building up a manor-like base, exploring the mines below, and fighting off goblins with swords and magic bolts. At trailer's end, something like a dark heart is shown within the cavernous depths of Kyora's world.
According to the Steam page, Kyora has online co-op for up to eight players. While Core Keeper had a top-down look, Kyora opts for a side-scrolling presentation. The trailer shows various players kitted out with different clothes and weapons, like witches' hats and cloaks. Its pixel look is not just for show, as players can manipulate each pixel to build out their bases. They can even change the environment mid-battle to build cover to hide behind or a platform to jump on.
Like other games of its kind, Kyora's world is procedurally generated and features diverse biomes like deserts and forests. Players can extract materials and ingredients from across the biomes to upgrade their armor and weapons, craft magic wands, and cook up helping recipes. Seeds found out in the world can be planted back at home base. Each biome has its own mega-boss, called a Herald, against which players will have to utilize the biome's resources.
