Unless you've been living under a gaming rock for the last year or so, you're probably aware that The Legend of Zelda is going through a pretty major point in its history right now. The 40th anniversary makes it one of the first series in the medium to reach that staggering milestone as an active franchise, and to celebrate it, we have enjoyed a bunch of exciting releases, many of which are still to come.
The announcement of the Ocarina of Time Remake is undoubtedly the big one, with that set to release in November of this year, but the fun certainly hasn't stopped there. Now, we have just received further details on arguably the most interesting of the upcoming product lines, and it should prove to be a very exciting one for longtime fans.
As first reported by GameRant, Nintendo has officially revealed new box art for The Legend of Zelda: Master Collection, a major new trading card collection being created in partnership with Italian company Panini, who are most well-known for their production of collectible football stickers.
The really exciting part about the cards is that they are drawing inspiration and elements from games across the series, from its earliest days, all the way up to the most recent Wilds era. The full list of games that have contributed to the set in one form or another is as follows:
- The Legend of Zelda
- The Adventures of Link
- A Link to the Past
- Link's Awakening
- Ocarina of Time
- Majora's Mask
- Oracle of Seasons
- Oracle of Ages
- Four Swords
- The Wind Waker
- Four Swords Adventures
- The Minish Cap
- Twilight Princess
- Phantom Hourglass
- Spirit Tracks
- Skyward Sword
- A Link Between WorldsTri Force Heroes
- Breath of the Wild
- Tears of the Kingdom
- Echoes of Wisdom
That makes it considerably broader in scope than most collaborations of this ilk that we have seen to date, and it should make it particularly exciting for longtime fans who still treasure the earlier games in the series. The manufacturer hasn't gone into detail just yet on the full list of cards associated with the set, but we can expect them to do so in relatively short order, given that they're intending to release it as a small part of the 40th anniversary.
The Legend of Zelda movie is also continuing production apace, with that set to drop on April 30, 2027, barring any major delays (which are expressly unlikely at this point, so close to release). As for the mainline single-player series, we will have to wait a little longer to find out exactly what Nintendo has planned, but you wouldn't be unreasonable to expect an announcement in that regard during the first half of next year.
