It's been a seriously exciting few months for The Legend of Zelda fans, with Nintendo finally outlining everything they have planned to mark the critically acclaimed franchise's 40th anniversary. The real star of the celebrations is, of course, the Ocarina of Time remake, which lands next month. 2027 will also see the release of the live-action movie, which I imagine will be . . . interesting. I'm along for the ride no matter what.
Of course, there's plenty more Zelda-themed goodness for fans to gobble up over the next few months, including the long-rumored special edition version of the Switch 2 console. But if you don't poop money, there's another release that has the potential to be very popular with those who like collecting. Be warned though, I can totally see scalpers ruining this one for everyone too.
Nintendo has officially confirmed the upcoming release of the Legend of Zelda: Master Collection trading card set in collaboration with Panini, who are perhaps best known for their World Cup stickers. The new cards will feature artwork from games throughout the series, and there's even a special edition album that they're releasing alongside it, so you can keep your collection in pristine condition.
Much like the World Cup cards, the Zelda set won't contain any gameplay mechanics to speak of. They're really just for collectors' to, you know, collect. The original announcement shows off cards with classic Link, Zelda from Skyward Sword, Link from Tears of the Kingdom, and a scene from Ocarina of Time. Beyond that, we still don't know anything else about the set, including a release date or how many different art cards there'll be to collect.
What we do know is that the collection will reference every mainline Zelda game, so expect to see:
- The Legend of Zelda
- The Adventures of Link
- A Link to the Past
- Link's Awakening
- Ocarina of Time
- Majora's Mask
- Oracle of Seasons
- Oracle of Ages
- Four Swords
- The Wind Waker
- Four Swords Adventures
- The Minish Cap
- Twilight Princess
- Phantom Hourglass
- Spirit Tracks
- Skyward Sword
- A Link Between WorldsTri Force Heroes
- Breath of the Wild
- Tears of the Kingdom
- Echoes of Wisdom
There were plenty of other physical products announced as part of the 40th anniversary of releases. Those included a third release in conjunction with LEGO, officially titled Lego The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Link & Epona, which pays tribute to the iconic title screen from the N64 classic. The set is planned for release in Spring 2027, and will clock in at 1,750 pieces. There are also two Amiibo on the way based on the Ocarina of Time remake, which will unlock bonus N64-inspired masks for Link to wear in-game.
For now, The Legend of Zelda fans can look forward to the Ocarina of Time remake, which is mere weeks away at the time of writing and is shaping up to be one of the most exciting games of the year.
