The actor, 37, shot to fame as the sex-mad sixth former Jay Cartwright in the hit E4 sitcom.
He starred alongside Simon Bird as Will McKenzie, Joe Thomas as Simon Cooper and Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland.
Nowadays, James is married to model Clair Meek and the pair have Harrison, 12, and 10-year-old Jude together.
The show ran from 2007 until 2010 and then spawned two films in 2011 and 2014 but James thinks a comeback would be 'greenlit straight away' if his co-stars all agreed.

He told Headliners: 'It's no secret that would be the most profitable thing I could go into right now.
'I do have children, I do have a family, I do have bills, and sometimes you've got to take that into consideration, just as a practical thing, a boring, dull, provider of a family thing.
'All that stuff I do think about and what's great is I know, if four of us boys get together — and (writers) Iain Morris and Damon Beesley — and we all have a little chat and we said 'Shall we go again?' I know it would be greenlit straight away.'
James also has no concerns when it comes to the notion that all four main characters will be well past sixth form age at this point.
He noted that 'men never grow up' and he still finds the sitcom funny to this day.'
James recently revealed that the programme could never have come to fruition had he and his co-stars not been close friends.
He told OK!: 'We spent so much time making the show and we'd usually all be staying in the same hotel, which meant having dinner together most nights and seeing one another the next morning.
'That went on for years and I think if we didn't get on or loved being around each other so much, making The Inbetweeners would have been impossible.

He said: 'Even our arguments are funny because they're so stupid.
'Nowadays, if I've done something that I know will annoy Clair, I'll actually save it and tell her on the podcast. I want her genuine reaction.'
