When The Hunting Wives premiered on Netflix in July 2025, no one anticipated the massive hit it would become. The drama series follows a young mother named Sophie O'Neil (Brittany Snow), who is drawn into the alluring world of Margo Banks (Malin Akerman) and her friends. The raunchy eight-episode series quickly became an obsession for viewers, and many binged to the end to discover the truth behind the first season's central murder. The Hunting Wives was renewed for Season 2 after becoming a smash-hit with audiences, but the show is now setting a new precedent for Netflix that other streamers need to embrace.
Netflix Has Already Renewed 'The Hunting Wives' for Season 3
Viewers have been eagerly waiting for The Hunting Wives to return, and a November 26 release date definitely ensures something thrilling to watch this Thanksgiving. While the series' upcoming eight episodes are likely filled with just as many addictive and shocking twists, Netflix has already announced some surprising news regarding The Hunting Wives' future.
A few weeks ago, Netflix confirmed that The Hunting Wives had been renewed for a third season. It's less common for a network or streamer to announce a renewal before a new season has even started airing. While the renewal speaks to Netflix's confidence that the series will continue to draw in viewers, it also suggests that this could be a new strategy for the streamer that could ease viewers' current complaints regarding frustratingly overlong breaks in between seasons.
'The Hunting Wives' Early Renewal Needs To Signal a New Streaming Shift
Many streaming shows, such as Wednesday, Severance, and Bridgerton, are all facing the problem of making viewers wait up to several years before new episodes are available. While series like Apple TV's Slow Horses and HBO Max's The Pitt have managed to establish production schedules resulting in consistent yearly releases, Netflix doesn't seem to have this sort of timeline down yet for much of its programming. Viewers have had issues with having to endure lengthy hiatuses for their favorite shows, and Netflix's declining subscriptions tend to suggest that this might be one of the reasons the streamer is struggling right now. There's also the fact that Netflix seems to be cancelling more shows after their very first seasons. Some viewers have expressed frustration that they fall in love with a show, only for the streamer to unceremoniously give it the ax. This leads to less investment, since audiences don't want to waste time on shows that they can't watch for the long haul.
Netflix's early renewal of The Hunting Wives suggests that the streamer might finally be willing to address this issue. Early renewals like this one can be super helpful in keeping productions on track, but this strategy also helps avoid long wait times that can end up hurting both the streamer and the shows themselves. A consistent production schedule could also help prevent some of these cancellations from the outset. Early renewals have been one of the factors that have helped shows like AMC's Dark Winds and Netflix's Ginny & Georgia, which was renewed for both its third and fourth seasons simultaneously, to retain loyal fans.

REVEAL MY NEMESIS →
The Case File Is Complete Your Nemesis Is…
Four criminal masterminds. One of them was always going to be yours. Here is who comes for you, why they picked you out of everyone available, and what they want from the encounter.
Hannibal Lecter
Your nemesis does not want to beat you. He wants to know you completely, and he is patient enough to wait for it. The frightening part is how good the conversation is.
- Lecter is the most dangerous kind of opponent: the one who finds you interesting. He never raises his voice, because he has never needed to.
- You keep a great deal to yourself and you are careful about what you show. That reserve is exactly the door he would knock on.
- The films understood something other thrillers missed. The horror is not the violence. It is being perfectly understood by the wrong person.
- He would be unfailingly polite about all of it. That is the worst part.
The Joker
Your nemesis is not after money, territory or revenge. He is after a demonstration, and you are the person he has chosen to prove his point on.
- The Joker only picks opponents who believe in something. Your decency is not a defence against him. It is the entire reason he showed up.
- He has no plan you can predict and nothing you can take away, which removes every tool you would normally reach for.
- His whole argument is that you are one bad day away from being him, and you would spend the rest of your life proving him wrong.
- He would call it a magic trick. You would call it the worst night of your life.
Moriarty
Your nemesis respects you, which sounds flattering until you work out what it means. He chose you because nobody else was worth his time.
- Moriarty is the original criminal mastermind, the template every later one borrows from: a mind the equal of the hero's, pointed the wrong way.
- You enjoy being the cleverest person in the room. He is counting on exactly that, and he has already built the room.
- This is the rare nemesis who would be genuinely disappointed if you lost badly. He needs the game to be worth playing.
- It ends the way these things always end. Two people, one problem, and only one way down.
Anton Chigurh
Your nemesis has no personal interest in you whatsoever, and that is precisely what makes him unsurvivable. You are not a rival. You are a stop on the way.
- Chigurh does not negotiate, gloat or explain. He arrives, he asks one question, and the answer was decided long before you opened your mouth.
- You trust yourself to handle things. He is the one problem in the world that has no interest in how capable you are.
- No Country for Old Men rewrote the screen villain by removing the thing audiences quietly rely on: the sense that talking might work.
- Call it. He will wait.
↻ RETAKE THE QUIZ
It's definitely exciting news that there's a guarantee for more Hunting Wives after this season, but hopefully Netflix will be able to see the benefits of early renewals and consider using this strategy even more often in the future. If other streamers jump on this bandwagon, more shows will be renewed expediently, resulting in a steady stream of new seasons and fewer of these dreaded long breaks from our favorite shows.
Season 1 of Hunting Wives is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S., with Season 2 set to premiere November 26.
