Sydney Sweeney Swaps Out Her Blunt Bob in Latest Hair Transformation
We haven’t seen the last of Millie Calloway.
Following the massive success of The Housemaid movie, Sydney Sweeney is set to reprise her role as the titular character—alongside costar Michele Morrone and director Paul Feig—in a follow-up movie based on Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid’s Secret. And though the novelist knows her story in good hands, she does have one request when it comes to bringing her sequel to the big screen: a glimpse at what Nina Winchester is up to.
“Even though she's not in the movie, I'm hoping Amanda Seyfried, if she’s free, can at least do a cameo, because I would love to see her come back,” McFadden told E! News in an exclusive interview. “She was such a star in the movie, and I'd love her to play some small part in it. That would be really cool.”
Indeed, though Amanda’s character Nina Winchester doesn’t join the further adventures of Millie and Enzo (Morrone) in The Housemaid’s secret, further Housemaid adventures—which also include short story “The Housemaid’s Wedding” and The Housemaid Is Watching—weren’t always a given for McFadden.
After all, despite leaving the possibility of a sequel open at the end of The Housemaid, the novelist admitted she often shies away from them, despite requests from fans.

“I usually don't like to do it, because I feel like it’s usually a spoiler,” McFadden explained. “But I felt like in this case, I could write it without it being a spoiler. I could just like set it as a continuation of Millie's story.”
Beyond feeling like the story could also stand on its own two feet, the also noted, “I felt so close to Millie and her character, and I wasn't quite ready to let go of it.”
And it’s no surprise Millie is a character close to McFadden’s heart as their journey together dates back years. In fact, the Dear Debbie writer conceived the story back in 2019.
“When I first wrote it, it was a little darker than some of the things I had written,” she recalled, and that led to a deviation in her writing process. “Often, when I write something, I show it to my mom, and she gets very scared easily, so I was afraid to show it to her, so I shelved the book for a while, and I thought to myself, ‘I don't know if I'll ever be able to publish this.'”

Fast forward a few years and the opportunity to release a book with eBook publisher Bookouture came about. Joking “I can’t trust my mother” with feedback on The Housemaid draft she had, McFadden sent it in anyway and the rest is history.
All these years later, it’s so baffling for her that the book took off in the way it did.
“I didn't expect much,” she noted. “I expected, you know, ‘I'm with a publisher now it will do maybe a little better than my other books.’ What actually happened was really so far beyond my wildest expectations.”
So when it came time to visit the set of The Housemaid movie—now available on premium digital and premium video on demand—this yearslong journey was at the forefront of her mind.
“When I saw Sydney Sweeney,” she revealed, “I actually started to cry. It was so emotional, getting to see Millie, this character that I spent so long with in my head, and she was the sweetest. She was so nice. She hugged me, and she just she seemed like the sweetest person.”
And soon, McFadden and fans will get to see Millie—and Morrone’s Enzo—once more in the upcoming sequel. Until then, see what books are getting the adaptation treatment this year and beyond…

But this casting has certainly placed this eight-episode series at the top of the must-watch list.
