Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Negasonic Teenage Warhead #1!Galactus is about to make his MCU debut in the upcoming film Fantastic Four: First Steps, but interestingly enough, his heir has already been introduced. In fact, this hero was introduced in the MCU nearly 10 years ago, and while one would think that someone who’s destined to become the heir of Galactus would be pretty hard to miss, the hero-in-question is actually the last one fans would likely ever expect.
In Negasonic Teenage Warhead #1 by Andrew Wheeler, Eleonora Carlini, and Carola Borelli, Eloise Phimister aka Negasonic Teenage Warhead is fighting to save the entire universe. Ellie has the mutant power of precognition, but she can do a far stretch more than just see potential futures, she can pick them. Each future she peers into is one where she has developed a unique secondary mutation, and if she chooses to set her life along one particular path, she will get that power.
In this comic, Ellie starts off with reality manipulation as her secondary mutation, but after looking into the future and choosing a different path, Negasonic Teenage Warhead is able to switch that power out with portal creation. While that’s a great exhibition of her admittedly complex power set, this act not only resulted in Ellie getting portal creation, it also set the universe on a course to total annihilation. While trying to undo the damage she’d inadvertently done, Negasonic Teenage Warhead has to battle a version of herself who survived total universal annihilation: Megasonic Endless Godhead.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s Alternate Future Self is Galactus’ Heir
Negasonic Teenage Warhead Made Her MCU Debut in 2016’s Deadpool
Just like how she switched her reality-bending powers for portal-creating ones, Negasonic Teenage Warhead - when faced with the end of the universe - peered into a future where she survived, and then chose that path. That resulted in her surviving universal annihilation, folding her over into the next universe, and claiming the role as that universe’s ‘Galactus’. In every way that matters, the story of Ellie becoming Megasonic Endless Godhead is the same as that of Galan becoming Galactus, cementing her as Galactus’ true (potential) heir.
It’s interesting that someone like Negasonic Teenage Warhead has the potential to be the next universe’s Galactus, especially given the way she was portrayed in the MCU. While it technically wasn’t a part of the MCU at the time (though has since been adopted into the cinematic universe), 2016’s Deadpool brought Negasonic Teenage Warhead to the big screen. Even though she was a cool character - and still is - she was far from someone who anyone would think could become a cosmic powerhouse like Galactus. But, as it turns out, everyone was dead wrong.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead will Have to Compete with Another ‘Heir of Galactus’: Galacta
Galacta is Galactus’ Daughter Whose Story was Told in Galacta: Daughter of Galactus by Adam Warren and Hector Sevilla Lujan
While Negasonic Teenage Warhead proved that she has the potential to become a being identical to Galactus, she’ll have to compete with another ‘heir of Galactus’: Galacta. Galacta is Galactus’ daughter who currently lives a low-profile life on Earth, consuming alien parasites for energy sustenance. Her entire story is told in Galacta: Daughter of Galactus, and while it’s an interesting read, the biggest takeaway is simply Galacta’s existence, and how she may very well take over for Galactus as Marvel’s resident Devourer of Worlds.
