Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.
For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.
He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.
His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.
If you’re in the mood for sweeping romance, thunderous battle sequences, and one of the most emotionally overwhelming final acts ever put on screen, clear your calendar. The Last of the Mohicans is heading to free streaming next month on Tubi — which means Michael Mann’s epic frontier saga is about to be available for the unbeatable price of zero dollars.
Directed by Mann, the 1992 film stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye, the adopted son of the Mohican chief Chingachgook, set against the brutal backdrop of the French and Indian War in 1757. Day-Lewis delivers a physical, romantic performance that feels completely lived-in — running through forests, leaping across waterfalls, speaking with conviction and urgency. It’s a reminder of why he’s considered one of the greatest actors of his generation.
Alongside Day-Lewis, the film also stars Madeleine Stowe as Cora Munro, Russell Means as Chingachgook, Eric Schweig as Uncas, Jodhi May as Alice Munro, Steven Waddington as Maj. Duncan Heyward, Wes Studi as Magua, and Maurice Roeves as Col. Edmund Munro.
How Good Is 'The Last of the Mohicans'?
Collider’s review stated that The Last of the Mohicans marked a clear turning point for Michael Mann, trading the neon cool of his crime work for a sweeping, classical Hollywood period epic. Anchored by a commanding performance from Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye, the film followed the brutal entanglements of love and revenge during the French and Indian War, with Madeleine Stowe and Wes Studi delivering strong supporting turns. The Blu-ray’s director’s cut presentation showcased excellent picture and sound quality, bolstered by Mann’s insightful commentary and a solid making-of feature. Even if it didn’t completely resonate, it remained a striking and meticulously crafted historical drama.
"Shot by Dante Spinotti, this is a gorgeous film with a great leading performance by Daniel Day Lewis. Mann talks on the commentary about his love of the source material, and in that you get a very respectful adaptation. As such, it’s a well put together film, but it never came alive for me. That said, it’s fascinating to watch because it was obviously done pre-CGI, so all of the practical accomplishments of the film are self evident."
The Last of the Mohicans will be available to watch for free on Tubi starting March 1.
