The fantasy genre has become one of the biggest pillars of the movie and TV industry over the last 20 years. Many would argue that The Lord of the Rings movies directed by Peter Jackson are what kicked off the modern love for fantasy epics, but the truth is, it goes back much further to older classics like The Wizard of Oz. In the early 2010s, Game of Thrones came around and introduced a new generation of fans to the fantasy TV show. Based on the series of novels of the same name by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones became one of the biggest properties for HBO. Now, Starz's sweeping historical romance, which is building out a sprawling franchise of its own, is set to come to a close this year.

Outlander, the romantic epic that began streaming in 2014, will come to a close with its eighth and final season premiering next month. The series has aired seven highly successful seasons to date, and Season 8's release is just around the corner, with the first episode set to arrive on March 6. As part of Collider’s Exclusive Spring Preview Event for all the hottest TV shows, we’re thrilled to debut a new sneak peek at Outlander Season 8. Starz, the exclusive home of Outlander and its offshoot, Outlander: Blood of my Blood, has also released an official synopsis for the final season of Outlander:

“As Season Eight begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser's Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they've left the war for America's freedom behind, their fight for Fraser's Ridge has only just begun.”
