Many The Golden Bachelorette fans want Mark Anderson to be the next Golden Bachelor, but there are signs that he'll turn down the leading man role if it's offered to him. It's easy to assume that Mark was a "producer plant' who was only cast on the show so he could later follow 73-year-old Gerry Turner as The Golden Bachelor season 2's star. Fans caught their first glimpse of Mark during The Bachelor season 28. His daughter, Kelsey Anderson, was a contestant who brought Joey Graziadei home to meet her family during hometown dates.

Mark was an instant fan favorite, and hopes were high when he was cast in The Golden Bachelorette season 1. Though he and 61-year-old Joan Vassos hit it off initially, the spark between them fizzled quickly. After the world's most awkward solo date, Joan sent Mark home the week before her hometown visits. Despite the online speculation about his Bachelor Nation future, it's possible that being the Golden Bachelor isn't Mark's dream, especially after he was eliminated from The Golden Bachelorette.

Mark Isn't Over His Late Wife Denise

He's Still In Mourning

Mark is no stranger to true love. Long before he joined the cast of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, he was married to the love of his life, Denise Anderson, for 18 years. She sadly passed away in 2018. After she lost her brief battle with cancer, Mark became a single father of five, and he had to set aside his own devastation to care for his family. It became increasingly clear that Mark wasn't over his late wife.

When Kelsey took Joey home during The Bachelor season 28, Mark gifted them a photo album that was filled with photos of him and his late wife. He wanted to give his daughter and Joey a glimpse of the great love life that he was lucky enough to find, but unlucky enough to lose. Mark wasn't ready to find love again, and, if it wasn't for Kelsey wanting to be on The Bachelor, Mark would never have thought of looking for love on national television.

Another reason why Mark won't accept the role of The Golden Bachelor is because he's simply too young. Gerry, the first Golden Bachelor, was 72 years old. At 58, Mark really isn't "golden" enough yet. Though Joan eliminated Mark from The Golden Bachelorette season 1, he will still be expected to appear during the "Men Tell All" special, unless ABC axes it. That would traditionally be when they announce the lead of The Golden Bachelor season 2. However, if they offered the role to Mark, he probably turned it down.
