The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos is now engaged to Chock Chapple, and the pressure to blend her family with Chock's (and get married) may be taking a toll on her. During season 1, Joan did her best to choose from 24 suitors, and sometimes felt confused. While she connected with Chock, she was interested in other guys too, including the French hairdresser, Pascal Ibgui. She needed some time before she could decide who was right for her. Now, the whole world is waiting for her to succeed or fail - no matter what she does, she will be judged.

Going on the show was a risk that Joan chose to take. On The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner didn't choose her - even if he wasn't right for her, that kind of rejection stings. So, she probably had to talk herself into trying again. Sure, landing the leading lady role on The Golden Bachelorette means cachet and money, but there is a downside. When Pascal dumped her in front of the whole world, she felt like she wasn't worthy of love, but Joan's a beautiful, intelligent and sensitive person. How she felt shows just how traumatic doing reality TV can be.

Joan lost her husband only four years ago, and on Nov. 27, while Chock and his kids were spending Thanksgiving with her, she needed some time out. It was her late husband John Vassos' birthday, and Joan was grieving. She was caught between the past and the present.

On a special occasion, someone can be pulled back into their grief - it can be so intense, almost as though the person they lost just died. It can be painful and jarring and terribly sad. Memories of happy times may hurt the most - some losses are so great that they seem almost unbelievable, like the whole world goes dark... like everything comforting and good and beautiful and right just disappears.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

As per her TikTok, where she sat alone in her car, discussing her emotions, she said that she felt "weird" on his birthday, but went to his grave with the group to sing "Happy Birthday" to him.

This is heartbreaking, and it shows how much pressure Joan is under.

Ir's heartbreaking because she loves her late husband but loves Chock too - so much is going on in her heart and mind. She has to step out of her grief to be emotionally present for Chock, who has some controlling traits, and this isn't easily done. Of course, Chock, who seems like such a nice man, understands grief. His late fiancee Kathy Goree died of brain cancer.

Joan Needs To Build A New Life

Her Leap Of Faith Is So Courageous

Gonna come back and take you home

Now, Joan has gotten through Thanksgiving, but that doesn't mean that the pressure is off. The entire world is waiting to see if she'll get married - they want a wedding. Some mean-spirited fans may want a breakup instead, just because that ramps up the post-show drama, but that kind of pain will trigger her, dragging right back to the worst moment of her life, when she lost her husband. A breakup is really the last thing that Joan needs, and no one knows this better than her.

Of course, Joan is a survivor. She's already lived with so much grief. However, she must know that building a relationship with Chock and then watching it fall apart will be emotionally exhausting. It might be humiliating too, although it shouldn't be. There's no shame in trying and failing, but the world can be a cruel place, and everything Joan and Chock do after a split will be analyzed on Reddit, Instagram, YouTube...everywhere. This adds so much pressure.

Joan really is a brave person and The Golden Bachelorette's Chock Chapple is lucky to have her. Hopefully, he appreciates this woman, who gallantly tries to make her life better when a lot of women would just give up on romance. Chock may actually be a great match for Joan - he's someone who seems dependable and attentive and established. He doesn't seem like a fly-by-night "player" type.

If The Golden Bachelorette duo marry, it'll be wonderful. Yes, they're in a long-distance relationship, where they'll divide their time between three cities. However, home is where the heart is, and what Joan needs is "that" kind of home... the sense of peace and acceptance and adoration that one person can give to another, which makes the loved person feel safe and grateful and content.

Fans can watch The Golden Bachelorette on AppleTV, Amazon Prime and YouTube.
